StickToPriest,
I was being sarcastic. I just find it funny how some people on this board are opposed to the idea of some performers (Fantasia and Beyonce, for example) performing on Broadway but when a Broadway performer does television or even film it's okay and a cause for celebration.
Isn't that some sort of double standard? When it all comes down to it they are all performers aren't they?
Well, there is a difference.
Television is acting.
Broadway is acting (and singing).
So, essentially, if someone is able to act on Broadway they should be able to act oon television.
Fantasia and Beyonce are singers, not actors. So by coming to Broadway they are tackling something that is not their profession (acting).
Not saying I agree or disagree with that, but there is a slight difference.
^^ that's a very weak argument.
so by your standards, reba mcentire a mere country singer shouldn't have tackled the roles of "annie oakley" or "nellie forbush" because she isn't considered an actress?!!!
yeah, okay, sure.
that's very narrow minded of you.
Can a singer be an actress? Sure. There are some that have been great.
But does that mean ALL singers will be decent actors? Of course not.
I was just trying to illuminate the other side of the argument for you, but if you are going to call me names when I was just having a discussion with you, then I won't bother.
Talk about narrow-minded.
'No she needs to do young frankenstein.'
Well she won't be doing YF unfortunately.

How do you know? That's not even official yet.
Chenowith knows what she needs to be doing.

And what would that be?
because I have information to that effect that has not been made public yet.
okay, Megan M in Young Frankenstein would keep me satisfied! I had no idea that was even on the table! where did anyone hear this (besides this thread of course)?
edit: nevermind, I just saw the other thread!

Jasobres: Chenowith knows she needs to tend to her career in whatever way she, and her managers, see fit. T.V. and movies are far more lucrative. To paraphrase another Mel Brooks show, she can make more money from a T.V. flop than from a Broadway hit. To say nothing of the national exposure she'll get - even if the show doesn't go, she'll be on talk shows promoting it, on news magazines, etc... Let's face it, would we all be frothing at the mouth for Megan Mullally to return to Broadway if she hadn't done WILL AND GRACE?
D2: I totally agree, and along those lines, Kristin Chenoweth should totally be going for the recurring sidekick role on a TV show, she would have a better chance, I say. There are many MANY character sidekicks who become the favorites of the show: i.e. Jack and Karen!
I thought this had to do with her starring in on A Clear Day in the future
I did too.
Let us remember what happened last time Chenoweth dropped out of a theatrical project to do TV.
"Thoroughly Modern Millie" went on to garner Sutton Foster a Tony and become a smash hit, while "Kristin" was quickly cancelled.
Perhaps Miss Chenoweth should learn a lesson from the past before history repeats itself?
And I will venture to say that Kristen Chenowith is better known outside of NY than Sutton Foster. Chenowith has a higher profile than Foster, and has done far more T.V. and film work.

For god's sake, learn to spell her friggin' name right!! Or are you misspelling it on purpose to insult her?
D2, I didn't mean to compare the two at all. My point is that maybe Kristin should stick to theater, since she's had more success and recognition there than she has in television.
the difference between the two is that 'Kristin' was developed specifically for her, while the new show is NOT. Also, while 'Millie' would have been a star vehicle for her, 'Young Frankenstein' is not..she'd just be part of an ensemble cast.
She didn't do too bad for the two seasons she was on 'The West Wing.'
Mullally Fan, she has harped on and on in the press about her adoration of Madeline Kahn and (when she was cast in the workshop) how happy she was to be able to step into a role previously inhabited by her role model. One would think, even in an ensemble piece, that she'd jump to maintain a part of something that seemed to be so special to her.
And while she was good on "The West Wing," it garnered her no publicity or recognition. She's been in the press with "The Apple Tree" more in the last few months than she was during her two years on TWW.
I thought from the title of this thread Kristin had signed for a re-make of PLEASE DON'T EAT THE DAISIES.
Which would actually be a great idea. In either the Doris Day OR Janis Paige role.
Thoroughly Modern Millie was hardly a smash hit, the show turned out to be a flop, however, Foster did win a Tony and became a Broadway name. However, Chenoweth has still had a better film career after Millie.
KRISTIN! Alright!
KRISTIN, KRISTIN, KRISTIN.
At least I know the difference between to and too, there and they're, hear and here, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera...
