Sad to see Chita go, but does this open up a theatre for another Globe transfer - The Times They Are a-changin'?
What puzzles me is why they're taking so long to initiate a tour.
When I saw that this show was on tdf for every performance this week except the Sunday matinee, I had a feeling it would close on the 19th.
I wonder what will take this theater next. Maybe Drowsy can switch? The Schoenfeld would be a better theater for Drowsy than the Marquis...I think.
I am so sad to hear about this. It doesn't come as a suprise but she is a legend who's show was amazing and I'll always remember the two performances I witnessed!
Is there a list of tour cities available yet? Yes, I know it's early.....
They have yet to be announced.
The show was great and it is time to go. IMO, it sohuld ahve been a limited engagement. I'm glad I saw it. Great company. The problem is that many people outside of this board don't know who she is.
Jimmy Neederlander is producing THE TIMES...
so he wants it in one of his houses
but it would look swell in the Schoenfeld
Just get it in this season!
Sorry to see Cheets go, It is an amazing performance!
Everyone Run to see it this week!

I don't know why I feel the need to post this, but Happy Anniversary Merlin! Chita's 2nd flop opened on February 13, 1983 and lasted 199 performances.
I actually liked this show. But unfortunatly Chita doesn't sell enough tickets on her own, I think. When did the show open?
December 11th.

oi
maybe she will send out something to me ( a signed pic) before the show closes
poor chita, poor show, and poor broadway- im sad this is closing, but mroe sad woman in white is closing the same day!
It saddens me that more people didn't leap at the opportunity to watch a living legend onstage. "A Dancer's Life" was seriously flawed, but Chita Rivera is a force of nature. I feel priviliged that I was able to see her shine onstage.
I'm so sad, I was really hoping to see this, and I know I won't be able to get to it by the 19th, and I was planning on going to see it that week after.

Wow, that was very fast. I'm extremely sad that I didn't see it. Good luck to Chita, and the tour (why's it taking that long?) Really wish I saw a legend like her
most tours take a long time. They don't tour rightaway. Bombay Dreams closed over a year ago and now they start touring. BKLYN closed almost a year ago i think and the tour is still not starting soon either.

I hope the cities are announced soon. I never got to see the show (since I don't live in NYC), but Chita has always been someone I look up too and I hope the tour comes near me. To see Chita perform live would be a dream come true!
Well, at least it lasted longer than Bring Back Birdie.
The Schoenfeld may be a better size for DROWSY, but the Marquis is far and away the better location - that's why its one of the most desired theatres in NYC, despite having no charm whatsoever - visibility - oh and great dressing rooms too.

I agree that this show should've been a limited engagement. But I disagree that the only reason the show did so bad was because Chita is not known to people outside of this board. Yes, Chita is a theater legend only, she's not a film star or a TV star, but the celebrity status didn't help Suzanne Sommer to sell tickets and the theater legen only status didn't hurt Elaine Stritch's show. Chita was indeed flawless in "The Dancer's Life" but the show itself was mediocre and unworthy of her. Stritch is not known to everyone but her show was a success because it was such a well-done show, I think even Bea Arthur's show (another well-done beatiful show) did much better than Chita's. I am upset Graciella Danielle and McNally didn't try to fix the show after the out of town reviews came out.

I tend to agree with Foscas. The creative team should have made this project better.
Glad to have seen it.
And I thought the retrospective of the choreographers and their signature styles was really great and the most innovative part of that show

Glad to have seen it too!
Chita Rivera is a great story teller, and her life is a very fascinating one.
We really enjoyed it. A shame it did not succeed. Had it open after the Jan/Feb/March slow period, would it have made a difference ?
