Just for that, there should be footage on the DVD of Mark and Roger pelting cops with various objects from the safety of their fire escape. Hooligans.

Did that mean same sex arm linking or a lesbian and a gay man linked arms?

Intervention!

"Although, "talking of impotence with graphic detail" is almost going there. I guess erection is too graphic for them."

Yeah, in that brief moment, I definately mistook Anthony's arm for a penis. I know I'm not alone in this.

Seriously, though, you'd think they'd see that RENT doesn't necessicarily condone all the destructive behavior. Yes, these characters love freely and well without worry of or protection against the consequences - therefore, a lot of them are dying. Drugs are shown as tearing relationships apart. It's gritty, it's real, and it's true.

CM, thanks for modifying the title of your post.

It is very important to point out this is an EXTREMIST Christian Analysis... I know someone before referenced another person as "VERY VERY Christian"...that would actually be an extreme fundamentalist.

Please keep in mind that not all Christians are like this.

Ok, off the soapbox. Now, I'll finish reading this. Or is it "reading"? Extremist Christian Analysis of American Culture on RENT

You know, I kind of respect him for saying that it is YOUR decision whether or not to watch it, instead of saying, "If you watch it you are going to be overwhelmed by the power of Satan" or whatnot. But, yeah. There are movies all over the place with adultery in it and guess what folks, adultery is in the same passage as homosexuality as being an abomination. But, a lot of Christians have commited adultery so they don't like to point that out because it includes them. Some people are idiots but again at least he was trying to prove his point and tells the reader for them to make their own decision. It could have been worse.

CM and Millie-- please don't get me wrong. I wasn't trying in any way to say that all Christians hold such views. This organizatin just seems to have a few names, and I wasn't sure which one to use for the thread title, so I used one close to the top. I didn't think that most people would know who the CAP Ministry is. ^-^

In going with Millie says, please don't condemn all Christians for the doings of the EXTREMISTS. I am a Christian and you all know how I feel about RENT, so . . .

"thong nudity, repeatedly"
"reference to giaism"

What do these two mean? There were no thongs in the movie. And what does giaism mean?

This one is my new favorite:

Offense to God:
-revelry

WHAT?!? People having a good time, this is blasphemy!

Oh, Ad_Lib, you know how I prowl the boards waiting to attack. Extremist Christian Analysis of American Culture on RENT

Anyone who knows the Bible knows that the outcasts of society are the people Jesus chose to hang out with. In Jesus' time, those folks were prostitutes and tax collectors and lepers. In modern times, those people would be the strippers, the herion addicts and those dying of AIDS. Jesus would've been there at the Life Support meetings, offering hugs, hot chocolate and love. But unfortunately, people miss that...

"I wonder how many folks know that the HIV particle is 50 times smaller than the pores in latex prophylactics? I wonder how many folks know that blood and any body exudate or fluid that originates in the blood can carry the HIV. And I wonder if there are any body fluids or exudates that do not originate in the blood."

This is incorrect. The following is from an article that originally appeared in the Summer 2002 issue of Conscience.

"Claims that latex condoms allow HIV to pass through are unfounded. The pores of latex condoms are too small to allow HIV to pass through. Condoms have been shown to be effective barriers not only to HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, but also to herpes simplex, CMV, hepatitis B, chlamydia and gonorrhea"

Ah, after I couldn't find it in any online dictionaries, I found this 10 links down in a Google search:

"giaism. for those of you who aren't familiar with that term, it's a belief that the earth itself is a living breathing organism and oceans, animals, etc are parts of it's body make up (organs, respiration etc)."

Where on earth (hehe) is anything like this mentioned in the movie?

Thank you CM. I'm a practicing Christian as well, but I've just started to accept that the fundies are not Christians for the same reason you mentioned, regardless of how many Bible verses they spout. These people should be subject to the same judgement and ridicule they give to others.
