I don't know how many of you have come across this website in the past, but is the review that I've been waiting for. After checking in on this site regularly for a few months and just sort of shaking my head in disbelief, I realized that, more likely than not, they'd have quite a bit to say about RENT when it finally hit screens. When this organization didn't have a review up right off the bat, I got discouraged, but sure enough, this morning during my first block class, there it was, and here it is:
http://www.capalert.com/capreports/rent.htm
At least they compliment the actors. Bravo, Anthony and all, for making an impression on those so horribly close-minded.
Otherwise, it's sickening, really.

"heterosexual, homosexual and lesbian"
I love how they put lesbian into a totally different category, lol.

"Exposing our youth to programming such as in Rent is like lighting a match to see if a gasoline tank is full."
This is getting a bit ridiculous.

"Who would have thought the high-wattage Taye Diggs could sing? Diggs didn't look all that comfortable when singing, but he can sing a lot better than I can. That is, if it was Diggs actually singing which I suspect it was."
My favorite quote so far.

wow thats really something, my favorite part is "there is no future there is no past- nihilism" and "I can't be what I'm not ... who I'm meant to be", "Take me for what I am or leave me" to excuse ignoble behavior
thats too much. and i love how they refer to the F word as "the most foul of foul words."
closed minded is right, this is a rant not a review

"Further, even the American College of Physicians has found the copycat syndrome associated with such entertainment. In their report they find an undeniable link between such programming as in Rent and the abuse of substances by kids of the MPAA "acceptable" age stratum for this film (90% of the study population were under 14 years old)."
That's just funny. I know when I saw Rent, I definitely wanted to go shoot up in the bathroom after it was over.

I really love hearing from people who are so outraged by swearing that they sit in the screening and COUNT every usage. Precious...
[EDIT] Anybody catch the "pretend marriage" comment about the commitment ceremony?
