The parts of the score that I've heard are amazing.
Really witty lyrics with lovely melodies to add to it.
I could also see Gavin Creel as Frank - just my opinion.
Christian, though an absolutely talented man, is not right for the role of Frank. Frank needs to have a little naivete, but throughout be able to convince anyone of anything with a wink and a smile. I don't think Christian can pull of the suave, persuasiveness of the part. To me, he works better in the quirky, off the wall, more endearing characters, and Frank really isn't any of those. I thought Matt Morrison was a great choice. But hey, as other said, Christian may surprise.

I'm just completely thrown off by the casting of these two. Christian Borle isn't the most charismatic actor (he's definitely fun, of course, but he just has a look about him that suggests he's always tired or exhausted), and Matthew Morrison is exponentially better int his role than Borle is. Morrison is fun, attractive, charming, and can switch from a serious actor to a cartoon (Fabrizio and Link is an impressive range not including any others). He's a perfect match, I think.
And Lane... I just don't like Lane. That voice is too nauseating.
If you wanna be really bitchy about it, I'd say that Borle's face looks waxy and he seems to have perpetual bags under his eyes.
Isn't Annaleigh Ashford playing the main love interest?
you guys must all be so small and quiet, cause I didn't see any of you in the audition room!
Trust us
Have any of the songs from the demo been replaced? I've listened to it five times and seriously can only remember "Real Truth" and "Jet Set" and the song that the woman sings that was really long.
I'm not a performer, why would I be auditioning? :P
ETA: Is Christine Ebersole to be in this workshop too?
I trust the creative team. Christian Boerle is amazing, one of the most natural actors I've ever seen . Who is this other guy though, Nate something? I don't know about him.
love the casting , i think Christian is wicked as is Lane
"Legally Blonde is one of the only ones i can think of is the best musical off based on a movie."
Oh my God, you guys . . . I think I totally upchucked in my throat. I popped in that cast recording for the first time yesterday and only made it to song two before turning that crap off.
Now . . . back on topic . . . I have heard the demo album for CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and I am completely addicted to it. I love that time period with the music and the style of clothing, etc. And I think Marc and team have captured the greatness of that period through the music. Bravo!!!
SpiderDJ,
I agree. What I love is how it is roughly the same era as Hairspray, but a totally different genre of music. While Hairspray was pop, this is much more of a Jazz score. Think Frank and Ella. I can't wait to hear the final orchestrations when it opens with a full orchestra...it'll be glorious. And I personally think Nathan Lane is going to be perfectly dry as Hanratty...and I am perfect for Frank :P

I'm really excited about Christian doing this workshop. I know he's known mainly for quirky character roles, and that can be a hard mold to break out of. I'm positive he'll surprise us.

Anyone see this latest workshop and can give us an update on it?
I'm curious if the musical has be completed and if it will be on Broadway by next year? Thanks.
It hasn't taken place yet.
And having seen an early workshop, I can tell you it's a dynamic score. I also have 10000% faith in the workshop casting as the creative team is very passionate about this project. I was blown away by the casting the first go around, and this one seems equally as exciting. Read more of my thoughts (which I wrote while it was fresh) via the link below:

Is the Katherin McPhee casting still happening? Marc and Scott mentioned this in a BBW red carpet interview the other day.
Since we're all wannabe casting directors, here are my choices. I think Andy Karl would be a good choice. Also, since James Marsden seems to be impressing in Hairspray, wouldn't he be a terrific choice? Instead of Nathan Lane, how about Boyd Gaines?
annaleigh ashford is doing the workshop also.
the workshop is scheduled around christian and annaleigh legally blonde schedule.
remember the parts for the show are not set yet.
remember what happended to kerry butler twice.
Loved the book, not so much the movie. My favorite part of the book was Abagnale's thought process and commentary, so I imagine the lyrics and any monologues will be quite witty. And also, <3 Nathan Lane.
The cast sounds pretty set in stone to me.
From a Playbill.com Interview with Marc:
Marc Shaiman: "It will be the first workshop — hopefully, the final one, too. We've had readings, but we've never had this. This has been a long-gestating project, mainly because everyone has been so busy with other things that we haven't had the chance to all be in the same room. Usually, I'm the one that everyone's yelling at. But, my God: Terrence McNally [who wrote the book to Catch Me If You Can] has written 3,000 plays in the last two years; Jack O'Brien and Jerry Mitchell have directed Stoppard trilogies and huge new Broadway musicals. It's been incredible."
Playbill.com: "And your stars, Nathan Lane and Christian Borle, have been busy, too. Whose idea was Borle?"
Marc Shaiman: "We had the auditions. He came in. Jerry was very high on him. Others came in, but Christian was so adorable and sings his ass off. His essence is just so — you can imagine him conning people by way of his good nature and sweetness. We were just completely charmed and blown away."

How has everyone heard the demos? I am excited to see the cast list, the original and the now version. I would have LOVED to see Matt Morrison back on Broadway, so I'm kind of upset that he doesn't get to play the part. I don't know if that was his decision or theirs, but regardless boo
But anyway, I am really interested to Christian Borle in the role, if that is in fact the official cast. The rest of the cast sounds great, minus the fact that I'm not big on American Idol.
I'm excited, not especially because I was in love with the movie (it was good, mind you) but the cast sounds AMAZING. The original members of the workshop AHH and now I'm interested to see who will fill the other roles, if they aren't going to be playing them anymore
