At least it aint Melanie.
Thats funny Master. I can't picture Christina in Sweet Charity.

As weird as this may sound -- I can actually picture Christina Applegate as Charity. I can't say why, though. And she did do a Las Vegas cabaret show, so I suppose she is a music performer. I say let's give her a shot and just maybe her standby can be Charlotte d'Amboise? Please?
P.S. Does this mean that she escapes the clutches of jury duty?

She did the workshop, but she and Doc Simon didn't getn along. She said that she thought that Chairty was a bit too "dumb" and he took offense.
Christina does have singing and dance training. It's what she was doing before she got 'Married ... With Children.'

I know this sounds strange as I don't know her nor have I heard her sing or seen her dance ....but I have a good vibe about this...I do not know why... I just do....I think this one may work out! Updated On: 3/11/04 at 04:52 PM
I think Christina has the Charity vibe. I definatley think she can pull this off. Like everyone else, I can't explain why, I just do.
I'm actually a little nervous and let me tell you why.
It's not the dancing. I've seen video of her and she moves quite well.
It's not the singing. A cow with a thyroid problem could sing this role.
I'm nervous about her acting. I actually REALLY enjoy her (DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER'S DEAD is a favorite). I'm just not sure if she is the right type of comedienne for the role. I'm worried she'll do what Maclaine did in the movie; make her too vulnerable, too pitiable and too real. Applegate (IMHO) has an edge to her that may not work. But I'm MORE than willing to give her a shot.
I just hope the production remembers what CHARITY is at heart.

well, she does have Bobbie directing and Chicago was as clear-eyed as you can get ....let's cross fingers.....
A cow with a thyroid problem... indeed..(LOL)
"You should see yourself" is literally 5 notes....(LOL)
'Chicago' was also disappointingly earnest, I thought. I NEVER thought Bobbie understood how to make that show sexy AND funny.
But I think CHICAGO could withstand the darker, less humorous approach.
CHARITY cannot. It's designed for a wonderful dancing clown.

I think Christina will be really good as Charity, plus it says she was the one that danced better. She's a good comedianne. I really hope I can get to see her
I really listened to what RobbieJ said about the role, its trap, and how MacLaine, winning though she was at times, victimized Charity (with a generous assist from the script, which tacked on that bizarre ending with the hippie giving her a flower...) Verdon embraced the "street" side of the character, as did Debbie Allen. If you play the soft underbelly, you lose the bigger-than-life survivor (remember the source material, a la Fellini.) It's a mistake to instantly go for the I-just-wanna-be-loved angle; if Charity wears her "hope" and her "valentine" too much on her sleeve, there's nowhere to go. Deep down she's an innocent, yes, but she's also, in her own way, real tough. I saw Gretchen Wyler in the part in London years ago. I remmber how really hard and trashy she was. That acquired "trash" is part of her veneer.
i think christina is a funny actress but the question is can she sing. she does sign that song in the sweetest thing "to big to fit in here". just kidding. and she's funny when she's on friend but, on broadway in that role i don't know.

Christina is a trained dancer and she can sing. The role of Charity, however, does not need a trained singer anyway, so Chrisitna definitely has the chops for the role. And how happy am I to see the return of the Boston tryout? Too happy. All too happy.
I'm feeling really good about this, and I'm sure that she will be great.
You never know what actors will "confess" that they can sing next. First, it was Ewan. Then Nicole. Then Renee. Now Lindsay Lohan is trying her hand. Who's next? Harvey Fierstein?! Oh, wait...

I have absolutely no idea of who this person is.

Dolly, you would have had to have seen a few movies and tv shows to know who Christina Applegate is.
And I for one am glad she got the role. She is funny so it should be interesting to see.
I think it will be interesting to see how it turns out. I am excited for her.

Wonder if Johno will be coming East with her.
Hey, maybe if Jarrod isn't available, he can do the lead in the BROADWAY edition of "All Shook Up" (sorry, Manley).
I've met her some time back & she is a very sweet & caring person. Martin SHort had started a contest of who could name the most songs w girls names & I "fed" her when she blanked...untill he caught on! She sang a bit but only when Bernadette wasn't around.
