Thats funny Master. I can't picture Christina in Sweet Charity.

As weird as this may sound -- I can actually picture Christina Applegate as Charity. I can't say why, though. And she did do a Las Vegas cabaret show, so I suppose she is a music performer. I say let's give her a shot and just maybe her standby can be Charlotte d'Amboise? Please?

P.S. Does this mean that she escapes the clutches of jury duty? re: re: re: Christina Applegate is Sweet Charity

I know this sounds strange as I don't know her nor have I heard her sing or seen her dance ....but I have a good vibe about this...I do not know why... I just do....I think this one may work out!

I'm actually a little nervous and let me tell you why.

It's not the dancing. I've seen video of her and she moves quite well.

It's not the singing. A cow with a thyroid problem could sing this role.

I'm nervous about her acting. I actually REALLY enjoy her (DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER'S DEAD is a favorite). I'm just not sure if she is the right type of comedienne for the role. I'm worried she'll do what Maclaine did in the movie; make her too vulnerable, too pitiable and too real. Applegate (IMHO) has an edge to her that may not work. But I'm MORE than willing to give her a shot.

I just hope the production remembers what CHARITY is at heart.

I really listened to what RobbieJ said about the role, its trap, and how MacLaine, winning though she was at times, victimized Charity (with a generous assist from the script, which tacked on that bizarre ending with the hippie giving her a flower...) Verdon embraced the "street" side of the character, as did Debbie Allen. If you play the soft underbelly, you lose the bigger-than-life survivor (remember the source material, a la Fellini.) It's a mistake to instantly go for the I-just-wanna-be-loved angle; if Charity wears her "hope" and her "valentine" too much on her sleeve, there's nowhere to go. Deep down she's an innocent, yes, but she's also, in her own way, real tough. I saw Gretchen Wyler in the part in London years ago. I remmber how really hard and trashy she was. That acquired "trash" is part of her veneer.
