I have always been a fan of Ms. Cicely Tyson and am thinking of coming to New York to see this show. Does she sign / take photos at the stage door? How about the others in the cast....Vanessa? Cuba?
I don't think this has even started previews yet.
Doesn't start until the 30th.
But Vanessa has always been incredibly sweet at the stage door.

I know of someone who worked on a film with Ms. Tyson, and she didn't even want to be photographed with her co-stars. From what I gather, it's not a mean spirited thing she just doesn't like photographs.
That's a shame but understandable. I would just like to be in get presence and bow down to her.
Maybe this is why.

That has to be the reason why.
Jordan, if I remember correctly she doesn't even watch her film work.
She might sign but say not to take photos (there are other actors who have made similar requests).

I'm getting the sense that it's totally okay and acceptable and understandable that Tyson doesn't want to take pictures yet there's another thread damning Scarlett Johansson for not wanting to take photos. Why the double standard?
Because Cicely is old...and black. ScarJo is young and white. Of course there are double standards here!
No no no no no. Let's back up here. The thread about Scarlett isn't saying she should sign or take photos. The problem with that stage door is that they tell everyone each day that she WILL come out and sign, making people wait, only for them to say "Sorry, she's gone!" after over an hour. BIG BIG difference.
Nobody is ever under any obligation to sign or take photos at a stage door. Scarlett included. The problem is telling fans she will be out when they know she won't.

I agree that actors are not obligated to sign/take pictures. It doesn't make them a bad person or a bad actor if they choose not to.

I hear ya Jordan. That exact same thing happened to me. I waited over 2 hours and no one but Tom Wopat came out on his bike.
I was angry, but after reading about "stage dooring," a term I hadn't heard of prior, I understand not to expect the actors to come out.
That said, I agree with what you are saying about security guys. While as someone said, they are not obligated to theater goers, there sure was a sense of "Stand and wait here, right here...wait for it...stay...okay...annnnnd [hours later] SORRY, they're gone." Or, "They're leaving now out front." And everyone [not me] runs to the front to mob them in their rides.
It sure seems an intentional act to get the majority of fans to reside in one place so that the actors can sneak out another way. And IF that is the case, then it's a bit of foul trickery. I even saw one security person trying to round up savvy fans waiting at the front of the theatre where the drivers were, "The stage door is this way!" He couldn't make people follow suit, but he suggested it.
Re. Ms. Tyson -- she doesn't do stage doors to my knowledge. I was standing next to Cicely's driver and he was told to drive somewhere else.

Just to play devil's advocate, what if the actor requests for this to happen out of concern for their safety or for a personal reason that wouldn't be known to said fans? Big movie stars having stalkers or people who endanger them or make them feel uncomfortable is hardly a rare phenomenon. Yes, it's an annoyance to those who wait, but the access people have to their favorite Broadway stars in terms of being able to converse, take pics, get autographs, etc. is not something that someone from the TV/film world would necessarily be familiar or comfortable with.

When I am 90 the last thing I'd wanna do is stand outside in the heat and sign sh#t.

She's in her 80s.
For the record, I am not complaining. I could care less. I didn't go to see Cicely -- sorry. I respect her but understand her not doing the stage door thing.
I signed up today simply to respond to someone wondering about her coming out and to give others a heads up about how it worked the night I went.

@ kevinr - In response to your initial question, so far the average responses have noted that the ones that come out of the stage door are Tom Wopat (he got on his bike and rode off the two times I was there) and maaaaaybe Cuba Gooding, Jr.
Experiences of theatre-goers have indicated that Cicely and Vanessa are not likely to come out (so far).

Stage doored Saturday night, May 4. Only Tom came out. We stood there for an hour for nothing.
Luke Duke! That's nothing to you? LOL
