City Centers Damn Yankees Casting?

Any rumors yet, I know we still have several months.

Any dream casting?

Jane Krakowski/Anika Noni Rose for Lola.
David Pittu as Applegate.
Neil Patrick Harris for Joe.

Ray, I know love Rose too, but do you seriously think she has the dancing chops for Lola? I do like the idea of Pittu though.

Lola: Rachele Rak, Shannon Lewis, Valarie Pettiford or CHITA RIVERA
(Jane Krakowski is also up there)
Joe: Patrick Wilson or Max Von Essen
Applegate: Norbert Leo Butz, Jason Alexander or Marc Kudisch

As for the guy who dances "Whose Got the Pain?" with Lola, Noah Racey.

I doubt Anika Noni Rose can dance to save her life, but I am trying to come up with actual stars (isn't it Summer Stars series or something like that?) who can dance and I came short.
Rak is perfection but a star she ain't (unfortunately), Natascia Diaz would be great but she isn't what I'd call a star.
The names I've heard thrown out are Anne Hathaway and Jane Krakowski, both of whom I think probably have the same kind of dancing skills as Rose (and I may be utterly wrong, Krakowski DID dance for Tommy Tune so what do I know?). I just feel Rose can completely embody the seductive skills of Lola as well as her immense sadness in ways that few actresses could.
Krakowski is my top choice though. If she gets cast in this, I'm buying my ticket right away.
I loooooooove the idea of Marc Kudisch as Applegate though. After all, he played a similar role in THE APPLE TREE (and I adored him in that little bit he did in that show).

Didn't they announce earlier this year that they are scrapping the stars part of the summer series, or maybe I'm just going crazy.

I actually think that Hathaway has dancing chops. I'm pretty sure that she had a dance background from high school.

Oh, I think Krakowski can dance more than just a little bit. I know its Summer Stars, but I've heard that they are departing from this mission for Damn Yankees (I could be wrong). And although Rak, Lewis or Pettiford are not stars, they might be considered "born to play these roles."

I*heart*fame, you said it before me.

Nice to see this coming back on stage. They are planning this for next Summer? Well, keep us updated. If cast well it can be a fun show.

This I would have loved to see Sutton Foster play but she is going to stuck with Shrek. Too bad for me.

So no stars?
In that case, I say Rachelle Rak (if there was a Tony for most underrated gypsy she would earn it) or Natascia Diaz.
Andrea Burns might be pretty good as well.

They're very adamant about casting Lola as a real star, and the lead front runner is one that will certainly bring crowds from all over, you can be sure of that.

One of Rose's first Broadway gigs was in the ensemble of Footloose (she understudied Rusty). So yes, she can dance. And very well, I might add.

Not that I think it will happen, but on the off chance that some of the City Center casting people are reading this, I second Megan Sikora for Lola.

Andrea Burns for Lola!

Agreed!

Max von Essen or Cheyenne Jackson for Joe.
NLB for Applegate.

What about John Lithgow as Applegate? A great comedian and great actor. For Lola does anyone else think Kristin Chenoweth could be different and good? Although maybe she is not enough of a dancer for the role. Not sure.

"What about John Lithgow as Applegate?"

My goodness...he'd be a great Applegate!

re: City Centers Damn Yankees Casting?

Lithgow is a great suggestion, but the buzz is that his DRS co-star will play the role.

re: City Centers Damn Yankees Casting?

Meh, I wanted someone like David Pittu or Marc Kudisch instead. Oh well.
Kristin Chenoweth is too cutesy-poo for Lola. This is the girl that was adorable and fantastic as Eve in THE APPLE TREE, I wouldn't buy her as the devil's right hand in DAMN YANKEES.
Megan Sikora is dreamy, she was the best part about the Encores! APPLAUSE, but she's not a star yet.

Rose was Rusty, it was Orfeh that understudied the role and got to go on during the transition of performers. She also danced in From Justin to Kelly :P

Have info but can't post it on the board. PM if you NEED to know the little bit I know.

re: City Centers Damn Yankees Casting?

Watch Dreamgirl or more specifically watch the rehearsal footage on the DVD, she CAN dance. Notice how Hudson has to have a personal coach while Beyonce and Rose soared through the choreography.

Karen Ziemba is officially TOO OLD for Lola. Didn't Lola trade her soul for eternal beauty?

re: City Centers Damn Yankees Casting?

Donna McKechnie as Lola. Yeah she's not the right age, but she can dance, she's sexy, she can sing, she's funny and she's a star. This is the Thea-TAH, age doesn't matter.
