Just listened to the Judge's Johanna and it is funny how Patti's tuba accents every whip crack.

I just finished listening to all of them and the first Ballad of Sweeney Todd and final Ballad of Sweeney Todd sound the same. I always loved it when the Beadle and Pirelli sing in the high register.

Just listened to them, too. I can't pass judgement yet, but I'd bet that this may be one of those recordings that are better enjoyed if you've heard (and listened intently to) the original recording. Then again, everyone should be required to own the original Sweeney Todd recording, anyway.

BTW, hate to threadjack (I seem to be doing that a lot, lately), but I pre-ordered the Sweeney CD jointly on Amazon.com with pre-ordering the Rent DVD. Because of the seperation of their release dates, it estimates delivery either the second or third of March. I remember I pre-ordered the Rent soundtrack, but it came a few weeks later than the release because I later ordered a few Forbidden Broadway CDs. Anyone been in this situation like this before, and if so, could I possibly get my Sweeney on the 31st or shortly thereafter?

Again, I can't pass judgement on the whole CD yet, and I haven't seen the show. However, if I HAD to draw opinions based on the clips, I'd have to agree with you.

Anyone else fell like they're missing something with Gemingani(sp?) singing "Ladies In Their Sensitivities" an octave lower than the original?

Well, I couldn't disagree more with the negative assesments. I can really hear the emotion in Michael's voice. I absolutely love his performance.
Although I will say Patti, Lauren, and Manuel (Toby) are marvelous and it shows.

Maybe it does help to see the show first though.

I don't think it's fair to judge the performers from the 30 second clips, without seeing the show or hearing the full cast recording.

Anyway, I think Michael's EPIPHANY is incredible, and that clips only gives a taste of what a powerful job he does with that song.

I'm (trying) not (to) judge just by the clips, especially since I haven't seen this Sweeney (and probably won't unless they tour [unlikely, I'd suspect] or it's still running by summer '07). However, if I HAD to judge from the clips of the CD, I didn't think Anthony or Cerveris come off extremely well. It's like I'm stateing my opinions on a movie trailer - I'm still going to see it, but this is just what I think of the preview.

In fact, I kind of liked "Epiphany," I just wasn't overly impressed with Michael's stuff overall. I think he came off much better on the videos on Broadway.com. [*eyes move from side to side* Or BroadwayWorld.com. *nervous giggle*]
