TheaterMania Review: In Deep Blue Sound, the Orcas Have Gone Silent, but the Humans Are Quite Vocal

Few plays successfully combine gut-wrenching pathos with a steady stream of belly laughs. Each story in Deep Blue Sound could support its own play. Koogler sends us off marveling at the great tragicomedy that we all get to enact, just by living on our own little islands scattered about this strange, challenging biosphere.

‘DEEP BLUE SOUND’ updates ‘Our Town’ for the modern age of isolation

Tony winner and The Notebook star Maryann Plunkett is reprising her Obie-winning performance from the Clubbed Thumb play's 2023 run.
Koogler’s brilliant play captures a fundamental contradiction at the center of modern living — our yearning to engage with those around us as well as our fear that we might be rejected or dismissed. Deep Blue Sound is a perceptive parable for our divided age, a reminder that those who work up the gumption to try to save the whales may have a better target far closer to home: themselves. ★★★★☆
Extended through April 5th, 2025.

Playwright Abe Koogler's portrait of a group of Pacific Northwesterners is rich, funny and devastating, with a cast that's a tasting menu of acting brilliance.

I am so happy this play is selling out and got great reviews! it's sooo good.
I would love to see a full realized production with proper sets, costumes etc outside of the blackbox format.
