I can't wait! Raul is amazing as Bobby!
That's awesome! I still wish they filmed Grey Gardens though.
Nice performance photo in the article. Excellent to have the date confirmed.

Too bad they couldn't broadcast on February 14.

excellent - can't wait
Can't wait for the DVD release!!!
Not quite news, but glad to see it hitting the theater sites nonetheless.
I still cannot quite fully express my happiness and sheer gratitude.
"Can't wait for the DVD release!!!"
I believe Great Performances has permission to only air it once or twice. There is no permission for it to be released on DVD unless it has a different contract than all previously shown musicals on Great Performances.

A big "THANK YOU!!" to Stephen Sondheim for ensuring his works will be seen by the masses and live on for years to come in their stage formats.

That's not true. They've said from the beginning it will be released on DVD, and many Great Performances broadcasts have been sold on DVD (the Sondheim shows, Sweeney concert, Fosse, The Webber Shows, etc.)

Well then I'm a dirty liar...(or maybe just misinformed.) Does it just depend on the production then?
It's getting a commercial DVD release... which I believe is in May.
And many Great Performances shows get released.
LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER shows are not released on DVD as they are properties of the Lincoln Center, which doesn't want them released on DVD. PBS has no rights to them.
GREAT PERFORMANCE is a PBS series -- they do NOT film the shows they air, which is why shows shown on Great Performances have been released on DVD. PBS doesn't own them so they are released on DVD by their respective producers/owners.
Lonny Price, the director of this COMPANY telecast stated before the tapings that it will be available on DVD after the PBS airing(s).
You're right Brody, I was confusing Great Performances with Live from Lincoln Center which explains it all.

I think it's being released because Sondheim has been generous with his work. Think of some of the others that haven't been released. (Light in the Piazza, Helen Hunt in Twelfth Night, House of Blue Leaves)
Piazza was "Live from Lincoln Center," not "Great Performances." Apples and oranges; it's common for Great Performances to be released to DVD. Oklahoma!, Kiss Me, Kate, etc.

Well, in that case, I know what I'm asking people to get me for my birthday. :)
I was beyond happy to see Raul's picture with the PBS article when I logged in earlier.
"Yes, the brutalities of progress are called revolutions. When they are over, men recognize that the human race has been harshly treated but it has moved forward." - Les Miserables
Nothing to do with Sondheim. The "Passion" concert version with Pati Lupone, Michael Cerveris and Audra MacDonald was never released on DVD, either. Cause it was , yep, "Live from Lincoln Center".
Oh and Twelfth Night was also "Live From Lincoln Center", hence, no DVD.

Ooo! Now that's a sexy shot. Joan Marcus? (Eug goes to friend Great Performances, surprised he hasn't already)

Those are Live at Lincoln Center broadcasts, which are broadcast live and therefore never released on DVD. I don't understand it because it wouldn't turn me off, but the only way they seem to be willing to release theatre on DVD is if they film several performances and edit them together so as to rid the broadcast of all mistakes.

Great news! And everybody be sure to mark their calendars for December 17th, when Mahagonny with Audra and Patti will be aired.
