It's such a fun movie and book series. Considering how well Waitress is working on Broadway, what do we think about the idea of a musical adaptation?
Yes. It’ll open at the Majestic when Phantom closes in a couple months.

I’ve been championing this to happen for years. It’s such a fun upbeat story, and it remains one of my favorite guilty pleasure films…and PLEASE cast Christian Borle as Derek Smeath.

Also Sheryl Lee Ralph for Alette and Lesli Margherita for Miss Korch.

Yes mine as well!! It's such a fun movie to rewatch and it takes place in NYC! Who were you thinking for Rebecca, Luke, and Suze, casting-wise? The merch they could have too. This would be such a fun musical if it came true.

Not sure about Luke…Ashley Park/ Hailey Kilgore as Rebecca and wait for it…Alex Newell as Suze. They would be fabulous. It would infuse some life into that role as well.

This casting is *chef's kiss*! Alex Newell would absolutely be wonderful. For Alicia Billington, I was also thinking either Taylor Louderman or Becca Tobin. Yes to Ashley Park!!! I was also thinking about Erika Henningsen or Jasmine Cephas Jones for Rebecca. (I love the idea of Erika and Taylor being onstage together again though.) I also thought about David Hunter for Luke.

As much as I love the series, I don’t know how well this would work on stage. I KNOW-don’t judge until you see it. I know. But so much happens that I don’t know how they could consolidate it. Not everything has to be turned into a show.
Totally agree. And it won't be. This poster started a thread yesterday trying to start a rumor which was quickly deleted (thus Jordan's joke) so take from that what you will about their threads.

Ahhh. Thank you!! There is a book that I really want to either be turned into a stage adaptation or movie because I just think it’s so important. But I just don’t believe this one would work on stage.

With all due respect I completely disagree…take PRETTY WOMAN for example, virtually nothing happens in that film. THAT is a perfect example of a film that should have never made its way to the stage. Confessions lends itself so well to so other mediums and adaptations because of its many charms and quirks. So much happens in a mere 90 minute film, that there is so much potential for the stage. Just my opinion.

Pretty Woman was a flop and embarrassingly bad on Broadway. So, thank you for proving both our points.

I was thinking since Waitress and Mean Girls have been doing well; I feel like a potential (I was spitballing really) Confessions of A Shopaholic Musical could do well. With the right casting and book of course.

Nice spelling and jumping into threads to argue with anyone and everyone per usual.

^^^^ Yes to all of this! Confessions has such fun and enjoyable aspects (and serious ones too); that's why I keep gravitating back to Waitress as a comparison. You wouldn't expect Waitress to hit it so well but I'm glad to see it does.

Oh. I must have missed the part where Waitress was a whole series of books that they were able to consolidate into one musical-my bad.
In all honesty though-you set the stage for people to have different opinions on this. Don’t get offended if someone says they don’t see it happening. Just because things are fun doesn’t mean they’ll translate well to the stage. Some things should be left alone. Did the movie of Confessions do well? As far as I know, while enjoyable, it was far from a hit. And with Broadway taking a massive financial hit with the pandemic, I’m not sure if they could afford to just say “yeah let’s experiment with something that’s been a series and a movie!”. I understand that shows can be a gamble no matter what they are, or what they’re based on. I do. But no, I do not think we need a Shopaholic musical.
