I had no idea they were announced today. Of course, it's obvious that AUGUST has it in the bag.

It was equally obvious that TAKE ME OUT had it in the bag, too.

I'm thinking LITTLE MERMAID.
No, no no. You're all wrong. Cry Baby will triumph. Just wait.
You guys are forgetting about CRY-BABY.
But the critical repsonse to TAKE ME OUT, while good, wasn't at the euphoric level that it was for AUGUST, where countless critics compared it to both LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT and WHOSE AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?.

Yeah, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF was a shoo-in, too.

Who could ever forget Cry-Baby after they saw it?

The point is, you never know. Did anyone in their right mind see TOPDOG/UNDERDOG coming as a Pulitzer winner?
Well, to be fair, WOOLF was chosen. And then the Board took it away.
"Who could ever forget Cry-Baby after they saw it?"
Everyone.
I'm pulling for Xanadu!
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was given the Pulitzer. But the Columbia board of trustees objected to the choice, so there was no Pulitzer for Drama given that year.
EDIT -- Just realized that SticktoPriest already said this.

Right. Exactly. That's common knowledge about WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? Only underlines my point about never knowing what bizarro shenanigans the Pulitzer folks are going to get up to.

What shows are up for the award? Is it only new shows?
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/15/03
No, they're going to recognize plays from the 1930s.
"What shows are up for the award? Is it only new shows?"
I really hope you're not serious.
I'm hoping Little Mermaid gets it!

Couldn't they give one to Patti Lupone Gypsy? It's so different from the original. Plus she's so good it in.

Couln't they take it back from SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE? The revival is so lame, and so different from the original.
I thought it was changed to SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH PATTI LUPONE GYPSY.
The Pulitzer should go to Roscoe's comments.
