re: Pulitzers Announced Today#3
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:14pmI had no idea they were announced today. Of course, it's obvious that AUGUST has it in the bag.

re: Pulitzers Announced Today#4
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:15pmIt was equally obvious that TAKE ME OUT had it in the bag, too.
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#6
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:23pmI'm thinking LITTLE MERMAID.
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#7
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:24pmNo, no no. You're all wrong. Cry Baby will triumph. Just wait.
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#8
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:24pmYou guys are forgetting about CRY-BABY.
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#9
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:24pmBut the critical repsonse to TAKE ME OUT, while good, wasn't at the euphoric level that it was for AUGUST, where countless critics compared it to both LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT and WHOSE AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?.

re: Pulitzers Announced Today#10
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:26pmYeah, WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF was a shoo-in, too.
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#11
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:27pmWho could ever forget Cry-Baby after they saw it?
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#12
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:29pmThe point is, you never know. Did anyone in their right mind see TOPDOG/UNDERDOG coming as a Pulitzer winner?
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#13
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:31pmWell, to be fair, WOOLF was chosen. And then the Board took it away.

"Who could ever forget Cry-Baby after they saw it?"
Everyone.
I'm pulling for Xanadu!

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was given the Pulitzer. But the Columbia board of trustees objected to the choice, so there was no Pulitzer for Drama given that year.
EDIT -- Just realized that SticktoPriest already said this.
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#16
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:36pmRight. Exactly. That's common knowledge about WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? Only underlines my point about never knowing what bizarro shenanigans the Pulitzer folks are going to get up to.

Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:39pmWhat shows are up for the award? Is it only new shows?
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#18
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:42pmNo, they're going to recognize plays from the 1930s.

I really hope you're not serious.
I'm hoping Little Mermaid gets it!

re: Pulitzers Announced Today#21
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:46pmCouldn't they give one to Patti Lupone Gypsy? It's so different from the original. Plus she's so good it in.
re: Pulitzers Announced Today#22
Posted: 4/7/08 at 2:52pmCouln't they take it back from SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE? The revival is so lame, and so different from the original.

I thought it was changed to SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH PATTI LUPONE GYPSY.
