Stephen Sondheim, the legendary songwriter of Into the Woods, and Meryl Streep, the star of the upcoming film adaptation of that musical, are among the 19 individuals chosen by President Barack Obama to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the White House announced Nov. 10.
The awards, the nation's highest civilian honor, will be presented at the White House Nov. 24.

First time posting!
Congratulations are indeed in order for Mr. Sondheim. I hope he sees our messages. It'd probably cheer him up! Lord knows he needs it (that music of his...hoo boy...kind of a downer)

Posted: 11/11/14 at 10:38pmIf I recall Sondheim was shortlisted to get this honour back in the dark days of the Bush Administration (the first Bush, not the afterbirth) but turned it down in protest of cuts to art funding Bush had put through.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
