Chita will be honored at a White House ceremony on August 12, along with Sidney Poitier, Stephen Hawking, Billie Jean King, Harvey Milk, Ted Kennedy, Rev. Joseph Lowery and Desmond Tutu.

Chita Rivera has earned the honor as a pioneer for Hispanic women in the world of theater. There are MANY impressive and deserving names on that list of 16 recipients, including the marvelous Sidney Poitier.
