How long is Saldivar on vacation?
Can't be for eight weeks. I don't like that he's being bumped for Maroulis to come in.

Again. Saldivar isn't going on vacation, he's not fired, etc. He's going to London to work on a project and his upcoming album. He will be back when Constantine leaves.

She did so bad they asked her back for 6 months. Could it be also that a show is at point in a run that Maintaining a profitable position is as good as increasing if the demand for the show is waning. The accountants know this better than we do.Things aren't always what they seem.

Absolutely. I'm glad she's coming back. She's the best Penny I've ever seen.

I am very pleased about this announcement. I think Constantine will make a great Sammy while Matthew is gone. He has what it takes, given the chance to show it. I think the audience will enjoy his performance. I am looking forward to seeing him perform in this role.

I am excited only because I think it is time for Constantine to put up or shut up. Also, if Matthew gets a chance to further his career by working on other projects, that is good too.
Blech.
NOT a fan of Constantine when he was on AI, but I think he can pull the part of Sammy off! Definitely happy he'll add a new audience and more exposure to TWS, even if its only for 8 weeks.
I hardly watch AI, but I went to youtube and heard his version of "Your Eyes" from Rent and he was brilliant, of course he is more of a rocker than a Broadway singer, but that is exactly what the role of Sammy requires, he will be great!
I saw him on the AI tour, with his much-celebrated "bohemian Rhapsody," and wanted to cry. He was BAD.
I haven't heard ANYTHING of Constantine's. I don't watch American Idol, i've never heard him sing or seen him act. I just don't like him as a person. One of my American Idol obsessed friends met him and said that he was so mean to her that she was about to cry.

Can I put up some videos I took at a Richmond benefit he did for the VSA?? He did a show to benefit promotion of all arts for children and donated his time and proceeds from the show and he was absolutely incredible. Is that allowed here? If so, how would I do it? Youtube? The thing I love the most about Constantine is his vibrato which is soooo light and natural almost flutters and on stage (yes I saw him in RENT as Roger so I have seen him on stage) his passion for telling the story really is magical.
Honestly, his is one of the best individual performances I've seen. Now I haven't seen The Wedding Singer yet, so honestly I'd love to hear more about the show and it's strengths and weaknesses. I'll be flying in to see it (I fly in quite a bit for Broadway actually, I've maybe seen 12 shows in the last 1.5 years), but I honestly think the part of Sammy is a great one for him. He's got this wild goofy side that will tranlate well in it I think, that not many have seen... he also got raves for his portrayal of Hedwig, and both Jesus and Judas in JCS and has multitudes of other parts to his credit. What strikes me is when he sings on the rock/dramatic/pop/jazz stage (as he's about as diverse as you can get and his range, omg) is how the songs become stories and he takes you on a journey through the music... I think you all will love him.
Honestly, Idol created a storyline for him which didn't completely show what he can really do. Those of us that have been fortunate enough to see him perform have really seen something special... just wait, I can't wait to hear what you all think after his opening and peeps are already buying tickets to fly in from all over the US... I'll be 5th row... and I plan to take in at least 3 more shows while I'm in town... any ideas for me??
So who can tell me about the part of Sammy??? I'd love to have details and yeah, I've been lurking, I've actually been on this site for quite awhile (over a year now), but had to reregister to get rid of my real name... no, I don't post... I lurk to hear about shows I want to see... I haven't seen History Boys yet so I'm thinking that's done this next trip and maybe I'll go see Sweeney again before it closes because I love that one. So... who can help me out...
Oh, and I'm a bit long winded, lol...

Actually, I thought he was quite good when I saw the AI tour. Not to mention his version of Bohemian Rhapsody on the Killer Queen CD is real, real good. :) Or at least I think so. That song had him in his element, IMO.

Sammy is the best friend to the main character of the show, Robbie Hart who is THE WEDDING SINGER. Sammy plays bass in the SIMPLY WED band of which Robbie is lead singer. Sammy once dated Holly, the cousin of Robbie's love intrest Julia. At one point Robbie goes out on a date with Holly, but Holly realizes he truly loves Julia. Then at one point, Holly realizes she is still in love with Sammy and sings a song called "Right In Front of Your Eyes" in which she basically bashes Sammy then realizes the bad qualities make her love him.

While overall attendance was down a bit compared to the same time period in 2005, ticket sales during Diana's Hairspray run were, on average, significantly higher than they had been for several months prior to her joining the cast. The weeks between her exit and Haylie Duff's debut had slightly lower average attendance than Diana's run, as well, so I would say she did help. The initial box office increase when Diana joined was even highlighted in the LA Times.

"There was a pretty nice sized crowd there today. Alot of kids and there parents, I could see the mezz, it looked pretty full. It can't be doing that badly."
Last week it grossed 61% even though it's late summer season that's not good... 3rd lowest on Broadway... and I've heard it's a good show so maybe this will help it survive to the next phase...I think it just might, hope so, I think it adds a certain diversity to the overall flavor right now...

Thanks ClumsyDude15... appreciate that, so Sammy's the bass sidekick to Robbie's vocal/lead guitar (*giggles* Constantine as a bassist will be fun, lol)... so he steals Robbie's gal (wow that's not hard to believe, pretty easy actually). I know the music's pretty diverse but 80's stylistically, what's Sammy sing (plays bass, but is he vocally a tenor or baritone?... it's group songs right? Quartets? or full cast??) and tell me about what Matthew does to individualize the character...yeah, I heard about the mullet top, and I hear that Constantine's going to be wearing a wig (ah, still wish I could see Hedwig). Is he punk, goofy, wacky... in his actual characterization or is it just the look?? What about dance?? Yeah, I also ask a lot of questions but I'd love to hear more about the play... You say that Julia makes fun of Sammy but that causes her to realize she loves him, cute idea... is she mean, or just naive??
They are trying to get someone famous to cover Julia. Hilary Duff turned it down, but they are asking some 80's pop stars now. However, that might have changed now that they announced Tina Maddigan taking over until Laura Benanti returns? Unless Benanti pulls out completely when her sick leave is up (which is likely). All I know is they were asking stars to take over for Julia when Laura was out around early-August.
too bad they couldn't bring Adam Sandler in for Robbie Hart. that'd be fun.
I saw the show tonight. The house was empty. Maybe 5 rows were filled in the mezz and there were empty seats in the orchestra as well. I have never been there when it was this empty. It made me upset. Constantine was there, I saw him outside during intermission talking to one of the swings and to the dance captain.
Jennifer Garner would be great as Julia i think. She always says she wants to be on Broadway. She looks a lot younger than her age.

My best friend was at the matinee today and she said it was packed. Side and rear mezz were pretty much full.

Except not. I'm not that crazy about Adam Sandler's Robbie, honestly. Hell.. I'm not that crazy about Adam, period. Heh.
