Both Playbill and Theatermania have confirmed what you've either anticipated or dreaded for the past week... he will play Sammy according to the reports. Does anyone know if Matthew's contract was even up yet?

I swear to god, I saw him at the show this afternoon upon going into the lobby to buy my WEDDING SINGER t-shirt. He was wearing a hat and looked pretty pleased.
Wouldn't doubt it. He was at the show last night, too.
What a stupid choice. I think he is completely wrong for this. I do like him - don't get me wrong. I think he's a very talented musician, but he's more suited for Lynch's part.
I don't mean to threadjack, but didn't want to start an entirely new thread when this is sort of related...I remember reading that Matthew was on vacation this week. Is this true? And er, is anyone on vacation this week, mainly on Sunday? Thanks kindly.
I am excited that this guy will keep The Wedding Singer open for a long, long time and he seems to be very into Broadway since he has been at a lot of Broadway openings, it shows his real interest in musical theatre. I am also happy for the fact that he won't play Robbie Hart. I wish they had cast a celebrity as Julia as well. A really famous star as Julia Sullivan would be great!
Constantine and Amy Spanger as a couple! sweet!

It only says an eight-week run. Does this mean Matthew will be returning?
I'm hoping Matt is returning after Constantine. It would be such a shame for them to buy him out for Constantine.
Muscle, you actually think that Constantine's 8 week stint will keep the show open for a long, long, long time?
It's only 8 weeks.
And even if he were to join as an open ended thing, he STILL wouldn't make the show run for a "long, long" time.

Agreed. I personally think that Lynch is a bigger name than Constantine, and he's not doing much for the box office right now.
Props to MTV for being the 1st to announce this. MTV has been mentioning Broadway a lot, they also covered Usher's Chicago debut today on TRL.
Unless they get someone big in as Julia ASAP, I can't imagine this show staying alive for 8 more months.
Nothing against Tina, but..
If they wanted stunt casting, they should have gotten a name (bigger than Constantine)for Julia and let this person cover Julia while Laura is out.

There was a pretty nice sized crowd there today. Alot of kids and there parents, I could see the mezz, it looked pretty full. It can't be doing that badly.
Munk, you avatar makes me sick. I hate JASON WAHLER!

Constantine as Robbie? You're JOKING, right? Oh God..
They may or may not still be stunt casting Julia, I don't know. All I know is they were having problems finding someone to put into the role. Everyone they've gone to already couldn't do it.

Okay, Lynch was a musical comedian who had stuff on Comedy Central. Constantine was a hot object on American Idol, which is broadcast and watched by MILLIONS of people every week. I had no idea who Lynch was prior to Wedding Singer, and I know a lot of people who are in the same boat, so... I wouldn't say Lynch is a bigger name, though he was a form of stunt casting.
I didn't know who Stephen was before TWS. I've heard about Constantine, but i don't watch American Idol, so i don't know if he can sing, but yes, you hear about Constantine on TV and in general, but never about Lynch.

Two out of Lynch's three albums are some of the best sellers in i-Tunes history. Constantine is another finalist just like DeGarmo and Frenchie, who barely raised ticket sales.
Constantine will be here from the beginning of September to the beginning of November. The fact that people all over the world have seen him won't matter. He's coming too late for Summer, and too early for Thanksgiving.

As I've posted in 2 other threads, Constantine is only doing an 8 week run, as Matthew's on leave to do a project in London and work on his album. He'll be back. This was confirmed at the stage door today.
My sincere congratulations to Constantine...this is just thrilling to hear that he has signed on for 8 weeks as Sammy.
No, he isn't going to cut his hair - a wig of the finest 80's mullet-ish style shall be worn (pics, please!)
His fans all know that he's capable of creating magic on the stage.
and yes...he is hysterically funny!
Let it rip, greekboy....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didnt Diana Degarmo boost sales for HAIRSPRAY?

Nope. Actually if you compare her time in Hairspray to the same period the year before, sales dropped.
She was in it from 2/7 through 5/21:

Oh really, go figure.
I thought all that promotion from her helped the show.
Is the same true for Haylie Duff- has she helped boost or lose sales?
good lord

seriously!? that is beyond awesome!! I mean I knew he had a mad loyal fanbase because he is just that amazing, but I didn't know it was THAT great :P that makes me happy too hear. haha
and more on topic:
I dont know... I'm still trying to decide if constantine has a large/loyal enough fanbase to actually make a difference in sales... however, I DO know this much. Constantine was WAY huger after season 4 ended than diana was after season 3. Seriously, I think the BEST thing that happened to him was getting kicked of early, because he had some FINATICS out there who were then willing to do anything to support him since he got such a raw end of the deal durring AI. Just.. yeah.. I was at the concert.. the amount of screaming when he came out was insane. So.. I'm just hoping that fanbase is still strong and WILL make more of a differance than diana did :)

I am beyond excited it's only two months. He'll come in hopefully raise sales and then leave and all will be good again with Matthew Saldivar.
