Could she?
I think she could pull it off...

When they announced Legally Blonde would become a musical, everyone was shouting out that Kristin would be PERFECT to play Elle, but she is too old to play the role. Also, by the time she would have a free moment to actually be in the show, she would be way too old for the show. She is way too busy, especially with Pushing Daises coming this fall to ABC, and probably wouldn't return to Broadway as a replacement.
Look for Megan Hilty to probably be the first replacement Elle.

NO! She couldn't. She is way too old for the role.

If the show had happened almost immediately on the heels of "Youre a Good Man, Charlie Brown" then yes, she probably would play it, and while she def could pull the age off (She looks 12, really), I don't think with her "status" that she has, that she would go back to it.

she SOOO could do that! It'd be so great!
I think Kristin Chenoweth would be perfect to play that part, besides age really does not matter on stage. she can play a 20 something even though she's older...
Giving the possiblity that she can do it even she's busy with her TV show but...
The real question is ... would she be willing REPLACED Laura Bell Bundy in Legally Blonde?

Wasn't the role written for her?
WHAT? It was a novel and then a film. I don't believe the role of Elle Woods was written for KC. And she is too OLD for the part anyway.
I think what Yankeefan meant was that the music that Elle sings was written around Kristin Chenoweth's vocals. I'm not sure if this is true, but it wouldn't surprise me.
I don't Kristin is too old at all to play this role. You just picked some rather unflattering pictures of her jimny. However, I highly doubt she is going to put a hold on her TV/movie career to replace someone in a show that didn't get great reviews to begin with.
I think the Megan Hilty idea is much more possible.

The next Elle?

Kristin was born on July 24, 1968. That would make her 39 this year so I think she has outgrown the role at this point.
Chenoweth is WAY too old for the role.
Megan Hilty would be a good Elle, and it would be nice to have her back on Broadway. I'd love to have Chenoweth back on Broadway, but NOT as Elle Woods.
I would say too old, but that woman shocks the hell outta me every time I see her, I bet she would be hysterical!
Believe it or not, jimnysf, Chenoweth was the #1 choice for Elle Woods back when the musical was announced. They started to write the role around her talents up until she actually responded to their request of having her star in the workshop. Her reply was "no". Chenoweth did not believe, and probably still doesn't, that Legally Blonde could work as a musical. She has stated it many times in interviews. It's not that big of a secret. Laura Bell Bundy took the steering wheel ever since.
She could definitely have done the role 7 years ago off the heels of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. She would have been 32 and the role would not have been too young for her. However, by that point the movie would not have been made and no one would have even thought of musicalizing it. If Chenoweth ever did the role, though, her portrayal would have been a lot more like Reese Witherspoon's. A somewhat quirkier version of Witherspoon's performance. Which, in all honesty, would have been perfectly fine with me.

Yeah, I agree that Kristin is the obvious choice but she is a victim of timing. She is too old...which isn't a bad thing at all. I think Kristin is over playing young kids. She's almost 40 I think she wants to be playing women, not kids.
For the record DG, Kristin has plenty of dance ability. She did enough of it in Steel Pier and she's played around enough to know she's got some training. I think she was taking ballet as a child.

Megan Hilty would be perfect for this part. She is hilarious and has a great voice. I think LBB is the best Elle. she just fits the character so wel.

She doesn't even look particularly good for her age. In every clip of APPLE TREE I've seen, she looks like a 45-year-old diva who can pass for 35 on stage.
She's 10 to 12 years younger than Karen Ziemba/Bebe Neuwirth/Donna Murphy/Charlotte D'Amboise - but she sure don't look it.

I'd have to agree with that. On film she doesn't look like she's in her thirties at all.
I don't care how much ballet she took, she can not dance, and her movement in Steel Pier was minimal.

Ummm Kristin looks as old as Bebe and Karen Ziemba?
Have you seen these people in person?
