The problem is that she IS a one-trick pony. I'm not saying she's not VERY talented, but has anyone ever seen her play something other than a perky blonde?

(and as a PS, am I the only one who thought DeGarmo was, like, the worst Penny ever?)

I'd like to see KC do drama on tv or stage. I think she'd be great in something like Steel Magnolias, Shakespeare and ack...who wrote Arcadia? Too lazy to Google. But I'd like to see her try various things, too.

To Amoni I think you may have picked the right person, Marc Schaiman calls her fantastic so I'm sure the producers will call her in if she's interested for an audition..
As for Born to Reign I think Diana Degarmo did a great Penny and many on this board call her one of the top 3 ever. She is not a one trick pony she played Maria in West Side Story, Brooklyn in Brooklyn the musical before and in between Hairspray's Penny.

I would like to see her get a go.

I didn't call DeGarmo a one-trick pony, but someone had mentioned her Penny. Not to threadjack, but I think it was the voice she did. I felt like she was trying too hard to play nerdy and I couldn't get past it.

Maybe she'd be good as Elle's mother or Paulette but she is TOO OLD for the part of Elle!

Yes, Chenoweth could play the role.

Is Chenoweth of an appropriate age to play the role? Not really.

Would Chenoweth want to play the role? Incredibly doubtful.

Just because someone misspells a word, or does not use caps, does not mean they are not bright. In my case it means...I have a great way with words but I have someone do my proofreading and correcting for me. See I am bright. I hire it done when it is important. Like a magazine article or a book.
The most important thing I want to make a point about is, it is rude and nasty and crude to say someone f'd their way to a part etc. That would be horrible to say about ANYONE. male,female,famous or semi-famous. There are many things you could have said that would have been wrong and dumb(like lacks talent etc) but that was WAY OUT OF LINE. so STOP please!

I could see Megan Hilty as Elle Woods and I also like the suggestion about Diana DeGarmo as I'd have to respectfully disagree with Born To Reign. She was excellent as Penny and put her own spin on the role that differentiated it from other portrayals. I'd rank her as one of the top 2 actresses in that role. She's young enough to play Elle Woods, probably would love to tackle a lead role, and proved with Brooklyn that she has the range to tackle difficult songs.

i think the age thing definitely would work against kristin. though her voice has a cutesie demeanor, it's very matured and i don't think it would quite fit elle's young aura. don't get me wrong, though - i love me some cheno!

Not only does she not look 18, she doesn't even look 39.

She usually looks like a woman in her 50s who looks good for her age. It's getting to the point where if she wants to stay on Broadway(read: I'm not supporting this idea) she needs to learn to play something other than the perky blonde.

But she has played up the dumb Blonde thing so well,
that if she returns to Broadway
It will be difficult to find a role that brings her success,
not impossible but
her height will also be a problem.

Ten years ago she could have played Elle, but now? No one, even those seated in the way back would ever buy her as a college student. Chenoweth would make Legally Blonde look like Stranger's With Candy:The Musical.

Well luckily she's branching out..so she shan't sully Broadway with what YOU deem inappropriate...

and this is just MO but..50 years ago..Kristin would be the type of personality they would be writing shows for..the sad thing is that these days it's more about bottom line than promoting talent. That's why we have crap like 'Legally Blonde' and 'Hairspray' and 'Jersey Boys'and Disney for days...

Um..FYI? Elle's in Law School..so it's grad school, not 18-22 year old undergrads..and grad school is made up of all ages.

Grad school is made up of all ages, sure, but it's very clear from the story that Elle went RIGHT from undergrad into grad school -- making her 22.
