Could GREASE 2 work on stage like Xanadu did?

I was watching GREASE 2 today and was totally thinking if it could work like they did for Xanadu. Anyone have thoughts?
And man, Max Caufield is hot (well then he was). Now, he has the same killer body for a man of his age, but his face shows age.

Nope.
The plot of Grease 2 really was terrible and unlike Xanadu, the entire plot cannot be altered for the stage.
Also, sequels ALWAYS fail.

Posted: 12/22/07 at 9:13pmI'm still trying to figure out how Grease on Broadway ever made it to be such a hit. 30 years later, people still ignore the fact the book is horrible.

This means nothing. Many shows have horrible books, and look at them.

I think that the average theatre goer doesn't look at things like if the show has a good book ect. They just look at if it was a good show all around. Most of the time All I hear is good songs or dancing ect but hardly nothing on the book. In many musicals the audience totally ignores the whole conept that someone wrote a boog for the show.
But, that being said. David Ian has bought the rights for the show to put it onstage. But, knowing him he would most likely just make it a stage adaptation of the movie no matter how bad it was.

Thanks guys...Jack O'Brien is one person (who I look up to a lot) who is one director that has highly mentioned that if the book DOES NOT WORK he will not do the project no matter how good the songs are.
So there are some people who really look for it as the art it is (storytelling)!

I've actually seen a stage version of Grease II at the Yale Cabaret many years ago. I remember reading in the local papers that it was a fully, legally sanctioned production, too. Of course it was silly and played completley over the top, but then again I don't mind the film at all so I enjoyed it.

Posted: 12/23/07 at 1:12pmGrease 2 has a GREAT score! Reproduction, Girl for All Season, Rock-a-Hula Luau, We'll Be Together, Let's Do It For Out Country. Great, great, great!!

all I'm saying is... "I'll be yours in springtime when the flowers are in bloom."
I think "Girl For All Seasons" could be a Springtime for Hitler-esq number.
But i;m not sure if it could hold the attention span. There is only 12 songs in the movie so they would probably have to add some to bulk it up a little.

David Ian should be prevented from doing any more GREASE productions in any legitimate theaters across the world ... please!

The plot for Grease 2 is actually kind of cool... it works really well! Basically an inverted plot of the original Grease. (it works better on paper, then the final project obviously.)
And the plot to Xanadu the musical only vaguely resembles the plot of the movie. They did change the entire plot and added subplots to make it work. So... the same could be done.
I love the score for Grease 2. And much like Xanadu the movie, it is the only thing going for it. (And for the record... "Cool Rider" was a top 40 hit back in the day...)

umm... duh. I mean... it has problems and they would need to be fixed. That's the point.
Xanadu had a total rehaul and Grease 2 would have to have the same.

Posted: 12/24/07 at 11:55pmIf a stage version is truly created, it should never be a broadway production because people will try to make it family friendly and ride the tail of Grease! The movie is not very good but I enjoy it very much. It needs to embrace that it is not the original and play to its cheesiness and camp value.

Michelle Pfeiffer, the star of Grease 2, is on record saying ""I hated that film with a vengeance and could not believe how bad it was. At the time I was young and didn't know any better.".
It really is garbage.

I don't agree that the book for GREASE is "bad". It is simple and straightforward and shows an obvious affection for what seemed like a simple era. That's pretty good for a light, musical comedy, and after a decade of war and civil rights battles, audiences were obviously ready for something else. (And let's don't confuse it with the film. The original did not have disco numbers or flying cars.)
None of which made it "bad". I saw it many times and I'm not even old enough to be nostalgic for the 1950s.
GREASE 2, on the other hand, is that Hollywood mainstay: an inferior remake masquerading as a sequel. Yeah, yeah, I've seen it many times because Caulfield and Zmed are smoking hot, but it's a very sad couple of hours despite the cast.
