Posted: 1/19/14 at 2:14amNo, I can't see either of them being successful as musicals. They wouldn't last a month if they tried. Soul Doctor on the other hand... if they ever made that into a musical, it would run for years if not decades.

Posted: 1/19/14 at 2:37amI don't think any of the Disney movies will ever make it as a Broadway musical.. Definitely not Mary Poppins, or Newsies, or Beauty and the Beast.. But I bet anything Bowling for Columbine The Musical would sweep the Tony's.

Reading all of these got my mind going, but instead of Musicals, I was thinking Television. I think they should make a cartoon sitcom with an all American family. A fat and dimwitted husband and his wife who have three children. Now here’s the interesting part- The mother has really tall hair (imagine a blue haired cactus), The Children could be really interesting- they could make the youngest a little baby with smarts beyond his/her years and never speaks. The other two children could be polar opposites- one smart and school orientated and the other a rebel. And to make things really interesting, we could have the family have an interesting skin color like yellow. I can only imagine all the crazy neighbors and residents of the fictional town that they live in too. I really think it could be big- it just can’t decide on the tile- The: Sampsons, Simpsons, Stimpsons, Stansons- something like that.
Now if we are talking musicals, I was watching John Water's Hairspray and thinking it would make a great musical on stage. just as long as Edna is played by a Man to pay tribute to Divine.

I would love to see them take the German novel SPRING AWAKENING and make that into a musical.
And why hasn't anyone ever thought of a musical about Mormon missionaries? Oh, it would probably fail -- who would want to see that?

Posted: 1/19/14 at 6:17amMormons? Please, it wouldn't last a week! Now, a musical adaptation of Alice in Wonderland in which the Mad Hatter is the villain would be a sure fire hit and play for years!!

Posted: 1/19/14 at 9:59amI've been spending hours upon hours meeting up with my actor and dancer friends we have all been discussing our life experiences, fears, expectations, triumphs and disappointments in the world of show business and of course the theater. I've been recording these meetings as I feel it may make a good book or even a play, but the more I think about it I may just turn it into a musical. Just a thought.

You know what would be a really stupid idea? Someone who thinks that "The Birdcage" should be turned into a musical. We ALL obviously know that one of the inspirations for "The Birdcage" IS a successful musical from the 80s. Yep that person would be really stupid because EVERYONE must know La Cage.
See. I have no problem laughing at myself. Zinging is fun!

Posted: 1/20/14 at 12:12pmYou guys have seriously missed the boat. What we need is a show about Eva Peron. I mean, the story of her life is just begging to be turned into a musical.

Just to further the lesson because, well, the more you know.... The musical came before the movie. They are both based on the same source material and thus many consider LA CAGE the "birdcage musical" even though it's technically not a direct adaptation. Also, The Birdcage is from 1996. Not the 1980s.

Posted: 1/20/14 at 8:16pmSo does anyone else think a musical about SPIDERMAN would be genious?? It would probably be the greatest show of all time. And just imagine if they could get someone like Bono to write a killer score! Aw, I can see it now...

Posted: 1/20/14 at 11:06pmI don't know if a Lion King musical would work, but perhaps an adaptation of Hamlet with animals to make it a little more family friendly would work.
