Why is this news? Scalping and bogus tickets has been an issue forever. Anyone remember the fiasco with THE LION KING, THE PRODUCERS and later WICKED? It goes on...

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

It's news because it puts the show on 'superstar' status.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

What happens to those patrons? I know it does not warrant it, but do they get tickets for another date as sympathy from the box office? prolly a stupid question haha

I doubt that the box office does anything as a sign of sympathy. I do think, however, that they should have been more carful with how they got the tickets. I don't think the box office should do anything nor should they have to. It's a simple case of playing with fire and getting burned. They bought their tickets from a shady source and fell for a scam they end up having to suffer the consequences.

Why would the box office give them tickets for another day? They are very clear about only going through the box office and telecharge for this very reason. If the tickets are not purchased through these outlets, the theatre box office has no liability if your ticket is invalid.

Anybody STUPID enough to buy tickets for a Bway show on Craigslist deserves to sit their asses out on the street with their rubber tickets, watching people with brains going in to see the show. I'm sorry, but stupid should be a crime!!

I'd love to know how much they got suckered into paying per ticket!

Legitimate brokers are charging up to close to $1000 per ticket for premiums (and $400-$500 for non-premiums), so I can only imagine.

I get great amusement out of guests that walk up to me looking for tickets to the show not only that evening, but want premium seating. They look at me like I have three heads when I tell them it is the hottest ticket in town and the broker pricing. It absolutely amazes me that people don't plan in advance when seeing shows and then expect to snap their fingers and have me produce tickets (pardon, the BEST tickets in the house).

Matt, haven't you learned by now that hotel guests in NYC are among the stupidest people in the world??? I mean, they still think Mamma Mia is a great show, even when they have SEEN IT.

Oh, that lesson was learned a long time ago. And no matter how much you try to sway them against it, they resist. But...a fool and their money...

I had a friend who spent like $200 on crappy seat for Promises Promises through some bogus Kristin Chenoweth fansite. People can be really stupid, my friend included.
