on my way to work , I dared to walk through the wind tunnel of the gershwin. At least 500 fans in WICKED shirts or holding green flowers scattered in the lobby, outside or by the stagedoor. Thats fine and dandy for their support as I was like that with RENT at peoples last shows... but, CRYING hysterically about Idina.. going so far as to LIGHT CANDLES and put them under her poster is going beyond a normal frame of mind.
I hope Idina is better though and everyone had a good time today. I also hope no fans were injured in a "times square esc" wicked barricade.

Is she dead?

Candle memorials?!? Oh my GOD these people are BEYOND pathetic!
This is soooo scary ! Can you imagine how the poor woman feels with all that nonsence ? I mean, what kind of pathetic idiots think this is a positive way to express one's admiration !
Take care

Wow...that is a little intense. How old were the ones with candles etc? (because young teens versus anyone over 14 or 16 is a big difference)
EVITA...EVITA...IDINA....EVITA....
The fans looked anywhere between 12-25. I also overheard a lot of mothers mouthing off about paying for tickets and Idina not being there. It's not like she planned this..
Wow. That's insane. Did any of the actors come out the stage door tonight? I can't imagine they did, and I definitely would not blame them if they didn't. That would be complete mayhem.

It was insane. Those kids scare the crap out of me. I have been a fan of Idina's for years now, and I am glad that people love her talent (or it may be because she is green.. well was...) but when I saw those candles it freaked me out. I asked my friends "Are we in mourning? Did she die?" It is just silliness. But these are the same kids who call her "god", actually we overheard someone actually say "She is my lord and savior". Which is just screwed up. It is scary.
The show was enjoyable, and it was a great experience, being there, with that amount of energy (and camera flashes).
Sorry you had to deal with the "crazy kiddies", as I like to call them.

Yeah, that's a tad bit much. Candle vigils?? Tears?? They're acting like John Lennon was shot again.
It's great that so many young people were introduced to Broadway, thanks to WICKED and Idina Menzel, but they shouldn't be worshipping her like she's a pop star. I'm just happy that when I get to see WICKED (yes, I haven't yet... although, I did go to two lotteries on a whim... and lost both), I will (hopefully) get to see Shoshana Bean. Maybe there won't be so many shrieking "tween" girls in the audience.
It's one thing to be a loyal fan. It's another to overstep your mental mindstate of fanship.
Seeing this was almost as bad as hearing the story about the girl who got backstage at AIDA and stole Adam Pascals toilet paper from his bathroom. Ask me how the hell she managed that one.

Wow, candles? I like her and all but can we say, "over the top"? Geez.

What the f*ck? I am laughing my ass off right now, literally, it ran away... Some stole toliet paper? I know in the ladies room it tends to run out, but dear lord. lol
But I totally agree, I am pretty 'normal' in my loyalities for performers whom I adore, but there is just things that go beyond that. Like stealing toliet paper. (that is one for the books man.)
ha ok i had to laugh..
lighting candles??? its one thing to go and watch a performance and cheer for the woman but to cry hysterically and light candles like she died? cmon people YOULL SEE HER AGAIN
People. Scare. Me.
I have loyalties as a fan to my favourites, but that's taking it WAY too far.
OK This makes some sense now. When I left the theater last night, (Yes I was there to see Idina and was very disapointed) There were teenage girls in sleeping bags sitting along the theater. I thought it was odd. The only thing I could think of was that they had no idea that Idina wasnt there. So these girls arrived last night to camp out for today?? I still dont really get it but OK.
HOWEVER, Shoshana was VERY GOOD in the show. She was so sweet at the stage door while signing autographs, and asked if she "got everyone" before leaving. She didnt seem like she expected all the people to be asking for HER autograph. She possed for pictures and actually made me and my kids feel a little better about our disapointment. My daughter found out quite by accident, 2 hours before the show last night, that Idina was taken to the hospital by ambulance. She sobbed for most of an hour. I am greatful that Idina is OK and I will look forward to next time!

I have been reading on this board for a while and was at the show tonight. I have to say some of the tween Idina Menzel fan girls are really irritating. I consider myself a big fan of her and Wicked (I’ve seen the show 5 times) but those kids that act like the performers are gods tick me off too. There is admiration for performers and then there is obsession. I did have a green rose before the show-they were part of something the unofficial Idina Menzel fan club did for charity, but I did not join in the candlelight vigil. I can understand to a point the worry people have though. You do feel connected with these people when you've seen the show, any show, many times. When a performer takes you through the emotions of a show, it really makes you think differently about them.
However, the obsession stuff is irritating when it interrupts your enjoyment of the show. A bunch of tweens were very annoying during the show. Idina came out on the stage after the melting scene (not through the trap door) and everyone was on their feet and cheering for 5+ minutes. I did shed some tears because I was worried for her. After hearing all of the rumors (many from this board :>), it was hard to know what happened to her. Once everyone quieted down, those irritating tween girls in the overhang kept on screaming "I love you Idina" At that point it was enough. They clearly crossed the line between admiration and a restraining order. We were happy she was ok, but the show had to go on. The moment was over and people wanted to hear the dialogue of the show.
It was a nice way for Idina to finish, singing the last part of the show she missed and I will miss the way she did the role. I think Shoshana was good today and I think she will really own the role as she does more performances. I like the differences in people’s interpretations of music. Unlike the obsessed Idina-fans, I understand that life will go on and like Joe Mantello said during the speeches (loosely paraphrased): A good performance never ends; it lives on in those who were there and experienced it.
idinaroxmysox its a quote from idinas concert at the zipper when shes talking about her rock star fantasy when she opens at madison square garden and she walks into her dressing room and sees green m&ms
zenachick- i TOTALLY agree with you. i consider myself a huge idina fan, but im 20 years old and its just irritating to see the 14-16 year olds screaming, crying, and (yes) falling down on the ground bawling in front of idina when they meet her. i went to her concert at the zipper and i couldn't believe how some of the girls were crying their eyes out when idina was taking pics with people. my boyfriend told me flat out "if u EVER acted like these girls id dump you on the spot".. (coming from a boyfriend of almost 4 years..
anyways i hope they realize when they meet idina and start screaming and crying in her face.. its not attractive
I bet you by tomorrow , every teenage girl will have a red jump suit. If Idina wanted extra cash , she could start a clothing line like marykate and ashley.. i'm sure a lot of people would be thrilled to "Wear" her. I'd just like to close by saying Thank you Idina and best of luck. Updated On: 1/9/05 at 09:12 PM
wow I couldn’t imagine being there. It would be sad but still really funny. But what about those other people who left? I cant believe people are forgetting about them! ummm what are there names again?
Wow, that is just scary- up to 25 years old?. Don't these kids and young adults realize that she is just a person too? I am a great admirer of Idina's talent, and have seen Wicked more than once early in its run, but this is just crazy.
Best of luck to Idina in the future! She deserves a medal for putting up with some of her crazy fans, as does most of the cast of Wicked.
