It amazes me how crazy some people can get over celebrities. Lighting candles in mourning like she had just died??? I cant really decide if i find that hilarious or disturbing. Sure I'm an Idina fan and I hope she gets well soon but you don't see me sobbing hysterically like we were all about to be hit by the apocolypse. I dont quite understand why peopel start acting so insane and stupid when they come face to face with an actor or actress that they like. I was once invited to a premiere and there was this huge hoard of girls shrieking and sobbing and jumping up and down like loons waving posters in the air waiting outside the theatre to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars. It was insane. And theres all those people who devote their lives to stalking celebrities and sending wierd letters etc. Don't they realize that they arent any differnet then us? What is suddenly so worshipful about them? Sure I admire alot of them for their work in plays/movies etc but for people to treat them like Gods is a bit much. You here tons of teens screaming "I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE HER WHEN I GROW UP!!!!" and they try to copy their styles to a T but in truth the only thing they know about the actor or actress is the movie they are in. how can someone want to be like another person if they dont really know anything about them?

Good grief!! I'm 18 years old, I loveee Idina & Wicked but WOW, there is being a fan and there is being RIDICULOUS. Go to the show, cry at the end, applaud like a maniac, see her at the stage door....but candles? Wow. Idina must be mortified...that behavior goes beyond flattery, lol.

How scary must that be...to see yourself being worshiped or prayed to by a bunch of pre-pubescents (and, god forbid, older people too!) ... and then having that massive crowd rush towards you at top speeds crying, screaming, and being generally incoherent and annoying. Wow.

I mean, I love her work, but...good grief!

one of my friends who was there for the entire afternoon told me that they had a prayer circle outside the gershwin as well for idina. Let me say i am VERY glad I missed that because I might of puked on the fans.

I agree, imagine how scary that must be to see this giant crowd of kids and full grown adults running at you screaming and crying and shouting and holding candles. You'd think someone had died. I would be scared ****less if people started acting that way around me. I saw the pics of Idina on Broadway.com and she looked like she was doing just fine and yet there are hoards of people camping out overnight and holding candle-lit ceremonies outside the theatre praying for her good health. Pretty crazy stuff.

Guys... She's fine, I just saw her last show. She came on in a little pain, but besides that, she's okay. no serious injuries or anything.

Just imagine what it would have been like if this happened on tuesday and they had a week to build up.

The candles etc. is coming on par with fans never washing themselves after being touched by a Rock Star or something. It's not...good. And it is quite disturbing...(although, I must admit, amusing to think about)

I agree with Loudirishgirl, its like when teenagers shake the hands of a celebrity and then dont wash it and allow themselves to get some kind of skin disease becuase they are afraid of disturbing the essence of the star left there. Hey dont get me wrong, I have favorite actors and actresses like everyone else does but thats just psycho when people start losing their heads and creating a kind of one person world wide riot.

I'm confused - does this mean that pop stars are SUPPOSED to be worshipped?

No, Amneris, this was back when he was the emcee in Cabaret. So he was pale and dark-haired and creepy looking :). Best he's ever looked, I think (I don't mean that as an insult)

I don't know why so many people are surprised by this behavior. I'd be willing to bet that several of those crazies are the same ones who post here.

I would have asked them why they lit candles if she wasn't dead. Pre-teens have to have someone to scream and cry and obsess about. Britney's out, so it might as well be Idina. At least it is someone talented. I just wish there was some sort of adult supervision to keep the behavior in check.

I'm an Idina fan & a Wicked fan and I still think people are crazy. It's great to be a fan but some people are obsessive!! She just left the show. She didn't die. She's filming RENT soon. Everyone will be able to buy the DVD & watch her whenever they want!! (Don't get me wrong I'll be one of those people!) However, people are just crazy. I could barely get on this site last night. My cable modemn was running like dial-up!! It was really frustrating!

I saw the show last April. I do like to get autographs if possible, but when I got to the Gershwin's stage door, I just shook my head and went for a drink at Therapy! (Something some of these rabid fans may be able to use!) Some of these Wicked fans are a wee bit out of control!

the greatest quote came from a bartender who works @ the show "we have men at war and a natural disaster that just killed thousands and these kids worry that Idina Menzel did not perform.. this just shows children of the future need to be better educated"
