Is there any way to purchase the dvd that was made of Crazy for You? I think it was broadcast on PBS once.
No there is not. It only aired on PBS and if you didn't record it then, you are out of luck. You could try ebay though...
It's really a shame, b/c it's a fantastic recording of a fantastic show, especially for the choreography. I accidentally taped over the middle hour. Sad times.
Which production was aired? Broadway or Nat'l tour??
They should release this and Contact!!
It was the Paper Mill production with Bruce Adler (from the original) and Jim Walton, but it included the original choreography, costumes and sets.
I wrote a paper on Susan Stroman and called PBS to see if I could get copies of "Crazy for You" and "Contact" and they basically told me that Storman is trying to get both made into feature films. While studios are negotiating to buy the rights to the shows, PBS can not mass produce them on DVD.
Ahhh OK. I knew about Contact but not CFY. Wow - two dance show movie musicals? Hmmmmm
Yes, Contact, Crazy For You, The Producers, and Showboat....BUT THEN THERE'S BIG and Thou Shalt Not!! One never knows!
I don't think Stro is going to have much luck with finding the money or support for film versions of either, after "The Producers" dismal showing.
Better to release the PBS versions of "Crazy For You" and "Contact" with bonus docs, commentary tracks, etc.
In all reality...it'd actually be better for them to sit tight right where they are and keep doing what they are doing. A Crazy For You DVD is not going to make them much, if any, money.

It can be viewed at the Lincoln Center branch of the New York Public Library. Since it aired on television, it isn't restricted.
Luckily, I taped it way back when & transferred it to DVD so I am set
