Does anyone know who is in the current cast? I saw the show here in Chicago, and might go down to Indiana University to see it with my friend who is a student there.

Thanks in advance for your help!

It isn't equity any more, is it?

Nope. The new tour launches next week as Non-Eq. The cast isn't on the site yet, so I have no idea.

I think I'll be seeing this. I hope the cast isn't awful, like every other non-eq tour I've seen.

So have I. I've NEVER seen a bad Non-Eq tour & I've seen 9 tours so far with 5 more coming this year.

Sorry to rant and thread jack here, but the Wedding Singer tour last year was there to show the world why equity was created. That was a non-eq tour, and I know a manager at one of the venues it hit, and they said they likely will be doing equity only. It was that bad.

My problem with non-equity tours has more to do with the mistreatment of the performers and the marketing (fooling ticketgoers into thinking they're seeing equity) than it does the quality.

So glad to see that this is coming back to GA! Not too thrilled with the venues. They're very nice, but big! Not Fox Theatre big, but still big! I know they want to make money with the ticket sales, but couldn't they have picked some slightly smaller houses?

But, why am I complaining? I get to see it again! And I'm sure this cast (whoever they are) will be great. After all, how many people can do what this show requires its actors to do?

Friends and I are thinking of revisiting the show (saw the Eq tour earlier this year) only because we're getting it on Halloween night. Should be fun to see who shows up in costume.

It depends on what your "standard" is. I grew up going to Broadway shows, so when I went to college and saw these non-Equity tours that came through with mostly mediocre performers and tacky sets, I was pissed. The non-Equity tours usually don't even have the same DIRECTOR as the Broadway show. I have no problem with non-Equity theatre in general, but I do have a problem with producers marketing a tour as the "Broadway" tour complete with the original logo when it is usually a Xerox with a mostly young and inexperiened cast.

Lake, I went to Indiana University, the auditorium there is huge and not the best place for some shows. I saw the Rent tour there and the stage and auditorium swallowed the show.
If you go get seats in the first few rows or you will regret it.

Indiana University was the college I was talking about, where I got my B.A. It is indeed a huge friggin' theatre. Over 3,000 seats!

"mediocre performers"

Are you serious? Constantine Rousouli is playing Link on Broadway, Gaelen Gilliand was in a non-eq tour and she's now in 9to5 after LB & Wicked. Brooklynn Pulver wipes the floor with some Broadway Tracys. They can't really treat actors as bad as you think since Dan Ferretti, Brooklynn Pulver, & Jerry O'Boyle all have been on tour (non-eq) for the past 3 years. As for marketing I'm sure the average theatre goer has NO IDEA what equity is.

you guys are so ingnorant. All a non-equity actor is is someone who isn't in the equity assosication, bid deal.

You make it seam like they are retars. As someone who knows people who have been in non-equity tours, 'i am offended. They can be just as talented is font more talented than these actors on broadway. Besides, where do you think the hot shots all start out.

I'm a little disapointed that the cast is so young. Oh well, I will still see it when it comes to my town

"My problem with non-equity tours has more to do with the mistreatment of the performers and the marketing (fooling ticketgoers into thinking they're seeing equity) than it does the quality."

As for treatment of the performers, no one is forcing them to do these tours. It's clearly advantageous to them some how or they wouldn't do it.

As for marketing, please tell me how non-eq tours are fraudulently marketed as equity tours? When have you ever seen a tour advertised as an EQUITY PRODUCTION or otherwise? Normal people don't give a crap if a production is equity or not. They only care if the entertainment was good and worth the cash they paid to see it.

The producers of non-eq tours try to do a good job with their tours and try to make it look as slick as possible to entice people to come. No where in this practice is there any attempt to fool people into thinking they're seeing an equity tour, mostly because MOST "normal" people don't even know what an equity or non-equity tour is.

That being said, most non-eq tours I've seen are crummmmmmmmy, with an average cast age of 20 and an average talent level of mediocre to horrible.

This is from WoO.

opening: so i was really excited for the show to start, the stage had this black slashed fabric in front of the set, with a blue back light and a little fog...ill try to post pics later...so anyways to continue

The Ballad of Sweeney Todd: The set design and direction was the John Doyle one, with the shelving unit in the back, black coffin in the middle, chairs used for different places, and the and all the actors playing instruments. the idea of the actors playing the instruments was sometimes cool, sometimes distracting...anyways, the show opens with toby in a straight jacket in the insane asylum...really cool effect when the doctor unties him and knocks on the back door, all the actors enter...they begin singing, i've only seen the movie, but have heard about the opening song, and i loved it! one of the girls was hitting all the right high notes...also amazing how many instruments each actor can play, and so well! the only bad thing about having the actors play the instruments was that sometimes the sound wasn't as full and intense as it would be with a full pit...anyways back to the song..i dont know how far into the song they go, but almost right away 2 women lifted the lid off the coffin, and set it down...more song...then they remove the drop cloths in the coffin, and im like tweaking out thinking "omg i bet he's in the coffin!" and sweeney was, he hopped out, which gave an awesome dramatic effect..song continues and ends very strong

note: almost between all the scenes they just kept moving, leaving very little time for applause

So from here, I'll just make notes, and talk about the actors...because i can't remember some of the scenes very well

No Place Like London: they turned the coffin to make it look like a boat, nice effect....sweeney sat in it, and antony was farther back along the wall...whenever antony and sweeney talked in this scene they faced out toward the audience...idk why, i didn't really like it...also the actors do all the set changing, and so when a scene was going on sometimes they would start moving into the next scene, which was very distracting...also some of the lighting worked, i liked it when it would just focus on certain people...it helped to make the focus easier for the audience...so antony was a very good singer and so was sweeney

the worst pies in london: so mrs lovett was good acting was, but singing she would alternate btw being pretty and very bright and character....also the accents that all the actors had were sketchy...i couldn't tell if they were supposed to be british or not...lovett sounded a bit jerseyish...anyways song was fine, good acting...especially when sweeney bit into the pie, great facial reactions...also i like all the color schemes costume and props wise...with black and white everything, except the blood, it made it visually compelling

poor thing: nothing noteworthy...i wish sweeney would have screamed a little more, on the "would no one take pity on her?"

my friends: sweeney good swing, very rich except for some of his lower notes were a bit strained, other than that great...the lighting was also cool here, it got brighter and brighter when a cymbol was hit...and then at the end he jumped on the coffin/table and did "my arm is complete again" where the lights got really bright, which was a cool emphasis

green finch: Johanna was an amazing singer, very pure and operatic sounding without too many trills or riffs, she was also very good facially...from what i could see...also on the back wall they lit certain objects during certain songs...druing green finch, they lit a birdcage....during this scene they moved the scene about so she was sitting on a chair on top of the coffin, this got a little distracting while she was trying to sing

ah miss: hadn't heard this before, you could tell the beggar woman was actually a good singer, that said she sounded a bit young and not scratchy enough for an old hag...in this scene again they talked out to the audience

johanna: anthony song it beautifully, the one thing that bugged me however was that johanna didn't have "yellow hair"!!!! i though they would've changed the lyric or made her wear a wig, it wouldn't have been so bad but they kept mentioning her hair and u could obviously tell she was a brunette

mirical elixir- nothing to report, toby wasn't very noticable, and the song was just 'meh'...i didn't realize pirelli was a girl playing a guy!? she did good "r" rolling but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary

ok...im having a finger cramp, and so ill continue later
