Anyone have any feeling sbout the songs that have been cut for the movie? I'm not exactly sure how to feel. I really like It's Beginning To Snow because of the harmonies and how SOndhiemian it is. I also really like Contact becase of the way Jon presented Angel's death. Though they are not essencial to the message they are still pretty important.

SOndhiemian, wow that is the first time I have ever heard some even attempt a word such as that.
I've made my peace with Contact being gone; it would be odd on film.
(PS - It's "Christmas Bells.")
Sondhiemian, what a cool word. Anyway, I wish they had been left in, but realistically, they had to cut some things out and it's better for those to be left out than some others.
I've never heard Christmas Bells being called It's Beginning to Snow lol.. But I think its for the best that those songs havn't made it into the movie.
It's called Christmas Bells. It's one of my favorite scenes in the show (ADHD) so I was bummed at first, but the plot points addressed in the song are being shown in other ways, so I'm okay with it.
Contact would never work in a movie. Angel's death in the movie is much better, IMO.
"Christmas Bells" is extremely theatrical and yes you could call it Sondheimian since it has the same feeling of "A Weekend In The Country", although I wish they had kept the song (I do believe there are ways to do it on film) because it's definitely one of my fav. songs in the show-- specially how it ends with Maureen's spectacular entrance-- I think that if they didn't find a way to develop this scene it's better that they didn't do it instead of doing a poor job that could harm the film."Contact" is also a great song but again, it's very theatrical, works great on stage, but for this one I really don't see any way of putting it in the movie.

The telephone messages are also cut - they are replaced with dialoge, thank God!
Sarah Silverman as Alexi Darling!
Those tele. messages would be really odd in the show. Idl about cutting them though. I think they're funny. But, Contact wouldn't have worked in the show at all.

I'm really going to miss Christmas Bells. It's one of my favorites. And what about Maureen's big entrance at the end? "Joanne, which way to the stage? SNOW!" Aw, I'll miss it.
i love christhmas bells but i understand why it was cut. they had to cut some songs and that one can easily be turned into dialogue. as for contact, i can;t see how it would work on film.
i think on film christmas bells would have either been 6 times as long or a jumbled mess, all of that overlapping dialogue wouldn't convey well on film.
the only cit i'm slightly bummed about is we're okay...although giving tracie seasons of love makes up for it
Christmas Bells always gave me chills, I love it. Therefor I'll consider it my own little goodie from the show.
Giving me room to start obnoxious sentences such as "Well in the actual SHOW they did such and such".

Christmas Bells is my favourite song in RENT, and I'm sad to see it gone from the film. It probably *could* be done, but it would require a damn good cinematographer to pull it off and I've never seen that out of a Chris Columbus film.
i'm definitely going to miss christmas bells and contact those are some of my favorite songs from the show-- but i have to agree with NightLaughs on the obnoxious comments. The new bath of annoying RENT fans who like the movie but never saw the show but think theyre the biggest fans ever can never take those songs away from me. :) haha.

I have come to terms with losing Christmas Bells....I won't miss Contact or Happy New Year much ....honestly, I almost wanted them to cut 'Today for You', but I guess it is an important song for Angel, it's just one of my least favorite (especially the synthesizer noices). But I agree about missing 'We're Okay", simply for the fact that it's like, Joanne's only solo! But atleast she gets Seasons of Love...I mean, even Benny has a solo...
I hope they didn't cut the reprise of I'll Cover You. I think it's one of the most moving songs in Rent.
I agree, Contact most likely wouldn't work in the movie, but i'm gonna miss Christmas Bells.
They wouldn't cut the I'll Cover You Reprise. It's really important to the show.
If you go on amazon.com, don't they have a song list?
Playbill also has one.

They didn't Cut I'll Cover You Reprise. It actually looks like it may turn out to be one of the bigest scenes in the movie. If I had a choise as to cut Christmas Bells or Today 4 u, id prolly rather cut Christmas bells.
