Oh, how sad.
Methinks I should watch Singin' in the Rain tonight.

That's so sad. What an incredible dancer. Her duet with Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain is my favorite duet of all time.
RIP
She was so incredible.
Cyd Charisse may be gone but will NEVER be forgotten.
R.I.P.
Paul would be very sad. That was his idol as a child.
So Cyd Charisse was a woman? I never knew that...it gives me a new look on Paul from ACL. So thanks for the pics!
MTVMANN -- how upsetting to hear what you just wrote. I'd expect anyone who loves Broadway would have seen her work in countless MGM movie musicals. She's in every single classic one from SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, THE BAND WAGON, SILK STOCKINGS to even BRIGADOON.
I was enamored with those legs since I was like 4 years old and will remain so until I leave this earth as well.
Please make the effort to expand your horizons and seek out those films. Not everything is post 1980.
As per your A CHORUS LINE reference... I guess you also don't know what THE RED SHOES is.

Awe.
She was a favorite American dancer for me.
She was also in The Harvey Girls in a minor part, but still she carried herself well, but only a hint of what was yet to come.
I'm going to pull out some of her films and do a marathon.
Greatness passes.

I do know of The Red Shoes, I've just never seen it. And I've seen Singin' in the Rain a couple of times too. I guess I never totally got to know who she was because I was always distracted by Jean Hagan (was that her name?)
I grew up watching MGM musicals and feel as if a friend of the family died.
This is sad. I had the pleasure (as a teenager) of seeing her dance, many times in the Melbourne production of NO, NO, NANETTE. R.I.P Cyd.

Very sad to hear that. As a kid, I absolutely loved her in Silk Stockings and still watch it from time to time. IMO, one of the more underrated movies. She was a great dancer and I adored her. RIP, Cyd. And condolences to Tony Martin.

Heartbreaking news. Such a talent!
This is sad news, indeed. She had a long and wonderful life, bringing joy and inspiration to lovers of dance and musical theatre. She will truly be missed.
I happened to watch That's Entertainment II last night, and even though I've seen it billions of times, I still found my self awed by her duet with Gene Kelly in Singin' In The Rain. Then I woke up to hear that she had passed. She was a true legend, and will be missed, but never forgotten.
Was she really only 5'6? I always assumed she was at least 5'9. Those infamous legs...
For her generation she was a giant at 5'6"! In general, dancers are quite short.
I remember when I first met Ann Reinking at a dinner party, I was expecting a 6'0" tower of legs. She was wearing flats and stood about 5'4". I'm 5'9" and I felt like a giant looking down at those blue eyes.

I was lucky enough to see her in a summer tour of ILLYA DARLING and on Broadway in GRAND HOTEL.
She will be missed.
