The film version is definitely being planned. The script by Logan is finished. Mendes is going to direct. Russell Crowe and Meryl Streep are in talks to star.

Hmm...Mendes is married to Kate Winslet, no? Kate Winslet, who is an amazing actor and can sing...maybe...

obviously, that is preposterous and will never happen. Where did you read this thejoker? I would love to see the story. Could u put a link here for us so we may read what led you to post this? :) thanks much!!!.........They are very close to "signing" Mrs. Lovett and it has come down to negotiations with Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman. Russell Crowe is rather cemented already as Sweeney. Watch for the news within the next several days.

The only role I could see Kate really playing is the Beggar Woman. I think she's a bit too old (and probably not quite a strong enough voice) for Johanna, and too young for Lovett.

I just pray Crowe doesn't do it. Don't care for him. And Sweeney is my favorite musical. Would love to see Lauper in the movie though. I think even the young people who may not know who she is, which I think would be very few, would enjoy her.

Too bad WishIHadATony is MIA- I wonder how many "a few" days are. I guess 60 or more as we've heard nothing about this big announcement he predicted two months ago.

The Joker~~Where did you read this? Just curious....I follow her career and haven't seen anything linking her to the movie. Also...she really wants to do a Broadway show...AND...interesting crowd at her concerts...she has die hard fans in their teens, 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's.
