I think people misread what I said as griping when it was not. Beyonce singing too well isn't a gripe, just an observation of the ONLY semi-bad thing I found in the trailer. But you guys bring up a good point that it is OK for Deena to sound really good as long as it is in that pop vein and not soulful. The thing is, I was wanting Beyonce to sound more like Diana Ross, but she is only supposed to sound like Deena. So it isn't necessarily against the script for her to sing well, I was just thinking of how thin Diana's voice is on a lot of her Supremes songs and comparing Beyonce to that, but she justly only can be compared to Deena.
Beyoncé is playing the Diana Ross-like character of "Deena Jones" who is a very fictional character and doesn't have to sound like Diana Ross at all.
The misconception that Deena has to sound mediocre is lost on me. I wouldn't really consider any of the actresses who I have seen play this character mediocre singers.
Deena is just supposed to have a more commercial sounding voice that can help the group cross over on the charts. Since when does a "pop" or "commercial" sounding voice equal "bad" or "mediocre"?

I guess you weren't bothered by the lip-synching then.
I think that the off sync between music and mouth movements especially in the Deena spinning was caused by the editor of the trailer, and not the girls themselves. I doubt the spinning really happens at the end of the song like they show there.
^^^^^^u go boy!

That's certainly possible, but it doesn't exactly give the best impression, whether it was the girls or the editor.
