It depends on what role your aiming for. I did DAMN YANKEES in high school and I was Smokey [the diwitted baseball player, one of the two main baseball players]. Our audition song was "Heart" [it's the number sung by the baseball players and their coach]. Everyone sang that song [girls as well].
If you want to be seen more as a Joe Boyd [the old man in the beginning of the show]you should sing "Good Bye Old Girl"
If you want to be seen more as Joe Hardy [the young-transformed Joe Boyd] you should sing "A Man Doesnt Know"
If you want Mr. Applegate [the Devil] sing "Those Were The Good Old Days".

EDIT: When we did it both- Joe Boyd and Joe Hardy were baritones and our Devil was a tenor.
