Above all, Lola has to be a good dancer. I've never seen Anne Hathaway do the choreography required for that role.
Ohh alright- when I worked on the show in highschool the director like specificall wanted a blonde for Lola- maybe it was just his preference
my bad:x
I'd like something off beat for Applegate Like John Malkovitch or John Goodman or( YES I KNOW it would never happen!) George Clooney. Someone just not who u'd automatically think for it. Didn't Martin Short do once?
Oh, Hathaway is not necessarily "wholesome." And yes, we all saw her fabulous bare breast in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN and HAVOC (I think). I find her to be incredibly sexy, just not particularly seductive in the way that a Jane Krakowski, Rachelle Rak, or Marisa Tomei could be.
Anne Hathaway has a fantastic singing voice, she did CARNIVAL at Encores! (earning a love letter from Mrs.Brantley himself) and has sung at numerous Broadway concerts. Yet, the thought of her singing "Whatever Lola Wants" is just odd. Krakowski MUST play the role.
I think if Krakowski plays Lola they should see how she looks in a red wig before keeping her as a blonde. In my mind Lola always has red hair.

Yes, but Gretchen Wyler replaced Verdon in the original cast (I saw her) and she was a blonde (well, a decided blonde) if there ever was one. Did a nice job in the show, too.
I'm not sure Krakowski would look as good as a red-head, depends on the wig I guess.
Did Bebe Neuwirth remain a brunette when she played the part in the revival?

Gretchen Wyler was a terrific LOLA when she replaced Verdon in the original. Yes she was blond and very sexy. I don't think hair color matters for the part.
As for Hathaway, she can seduce me any time and as often as she pleases.
I saw a screening of Get Smart this week, and rest assured, Anne Hathaway is beyond seductive in it. She could nail Lola's lure, but she may not be able to dance the role.
Anne Hathaway is a hard worker- I'm sure she'd work on the choreography until it was solid..
And YES Ann can sing...look at those "videos" on that site. Jane would be great in the role. I think Stephanie J. Block would be great too.
Ray, they put Bebe in a platinum blonde wig... not very flattering.

She looks much better in this photo than she did in person.
Her skin is ghoulishly white.

Bebe was absolutely wonderful as Lola! She deserved a Tony nomination atleast!
"My voice coach has been seeing Scarlett Johansson on a regular basis now... just thought I'd throw that out there."
Wasn't there a rumor that she was going to play Julie opposite Hugh Jackman in Carousel?

I think the rumor was started because people knew she could sing and Hugh has worked with her twice before so her name was just being thrown out there. We haven't really had an update on "Carousel" since Hugh announced in November 2006 they had just gotten the rights for it - but for what it's worth IMDB Pro has "Carousel" listed for a 2010 premiere. Maybe Hugh will be asked about an update in his upcoming promotions for his movies DECEPTION (April 25) or AUSTRALIA (November 14). He starts filming a movie called "Drive" (based on the James Sallis book) in the summer, and that was announced in the same year as "Carousel", so perhaps it will film next year which would keep it on track for 2010.
