I know Daniel Evans has a few fans here after his performance in the revival of Sunday in the Park with George.
It is rumoured (but not definite) that his next stage role will be directing himself as Bobby in a production of Company.

Oh, I would love to see that.

Eeeeeeee!!!!
He also needs to play the Baker with Jenna Russell as his Wife in ITW.
I think he'll make a lovely Bobby.
+1 ljay889.
I think it would come off as..boring..and miscast.
He was wonderful as George, he'd find a great way to make the role work for him. I'd love to see him play the part.

Don't get me wrong....I LOVE Daniel Evans. Love love love him. But 1, I think he should not attempt to direct himself with a character such as Bobby. And 2, I think as far as the physicality goes, Daniel is completely and totally wrong for the part.
That being said, I'd still love to see it.

Ew. After his dreadful pair of Georges in that ghastly revival of SUNDAY IN THE PARK, I'd never knowingly see him do anything again.

I cant' see him as Bobby--though I saw him at the RNT in London ithe Caird version of Candide--and he, liek the whole revised production, were near to perfection.

(OK - slight correction - he's not directing himself...)
Now I'm just wondering if Haydn Gwynne might be Joanne.

I totally living in the wrong country. I NEED TO SEE THIS!
Totally agree. I was looking forward to seeing him as George in "Sunday" and flew over to London for it. I found him to have only serviceable vocals and he gave a very boring performance. He would be so physically wrong for Bobby, it really wouldn't work. To be honest, I really don't get all the Daniel Evans love, but to each his own (then again, I don't like Raul Esparza, but he has many ravenous fans, so there you go).
Munby and Oram sounds a decent enough crew to kick off.
OH GOD I HOPE THEY DO GET HAYDN GWYNNE FOR JOANNE. SHE WAS AMAZING AT THE CONCERT. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Another piece of curious casting with Francesca Annis (the c17th aristocrat in c18th Cranford) as Joanne.
I'm not sure where they're going with this production. I think they've stopped toying with the idea of relocating the action from New York to Sheffield by way of revenge for what McNally & co. did to The Full Monty but you never know...
We'll find out soon enough. Opens early December.

I'd love to see him in the role. Why is he physically wrong for the part?
Has Francesca Annis ever done a musical before? I remember seeing her in the Fiennes HAMLET when I was a teen and loving her.

He not only was George, he won an Olivier for playing Charlie Kringas in the authors unapproved-original version-Donmar Warehouse production of "Merrily We Roll Along". He was fantastic (but not quite as fantastic as Sam Spiro as Mary. And "Death Takes A Holiday's" Julian Overden was a fine Frank).
Daniel Evans was brilliant as George; he broke one's heart. And he's such a terrific actor that I can see him finding the soul and the heart in Robert long before we get to "Being Alive." This would be worth a trip to the UK. And while we're at it, there must be role for the equally wonderful Jenna Russell, his Dot in SITPWG, pehaps Amy?
Loved Evans in SWITPWG and really hoping to get up to Sheffield to see this. It's looking like a good few months for me to fill in some gaps in the Sondheim that I have seen (currently only SITPWG and touring Sweeney with Jason Donovan *shudders*) with this and the Caroline O'Connor Gypsy coming up at Leicester next year.
And here's the casting announcement for COMPANY, and no, Daniel is not directing himself:

"Has Francesca Annis ever done a musical before?"
Not that I'm aware of. I understand she's been taking singing lessons.

"not quite as fantastic as Sam Spiro as Mary"
Not Jenna but Sam Spiro as Amy.

Was chatting to Daniel on Sunday when he sat behind us at a screening of 'Weekend'....and again last night when he sat behind us at 'End Of The Rainbow'. One more time and he's officially stalking me....I cannot wait to see him in this role. His Otto in 'Grand Hotel', Charlie in 'Merrily' and George in 'Sunday' have been some of the finest performances I've seen.

As long as this stays safely in England where it belongs...
Extremely good reviews...
The Torygraph:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/theatre-reviews/8938960/Company-Sheffield-Crucible-review.html
"It’s not every artistic director of a theatre... who’s prepared to strip to his underpants and roll around on a double bed with an air hostess in front of almost a thousand people. But then Daniel Evans isn’t just any artistic director. He acts, sings, dances and, hey, he also makes damned fine programming choices."
"Jonathan Munby’s world-class revival reminds us why Sondheim is hailed as a genius. With an experimental, non-linear book by George Furth, Company is both of its time – capturing an age of greater innocence and sexual exploration – and ahead of the game."
The Guardian:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/stage/2011/dec/06/company-review
"The beauty of Jonathan Munby's revival is that it is smart, sharp, and deliciously retro... but also full of real pain."
The Stage:
http://www.thestage.co.uk/reviews/review.php/34495/company
"this production is also a sharp antidote to the regional trend for Christmas musicals such as Annie, Scrooge, The King and I or Spamalot"
"But what’s most astonishing of all is that a musical that is now 41 years old can seem as fresh, real and contemporary still."
