Did anyone see this or hear about it?

Will he go nude? That would be shocking considering his fan base.

and isn't he just 15 or 16? He certainly is capable of the role -- he is a damn good actor, and his run in Harry Potter will be over when the seventh film is shot -- but don't you have to be 18 for the nudity required?
It's scheduled for January 2007, by which point he will be 17 and a half.

That's old, and was pretty much proved to be false. radcliffe will be working on the fifth Harry Potter film for the remainder of this year and part of next year as well. This much Warner Bros. has confirmed.

He's 16 and would be 17 by January 2007. The age of majority in the UK is 16, I believe. The nudity is pretty much unavoidable in the play, so I guess Radcliffe feels he can handle it (if this report is true).
I agree that it would be shocking for audiences to see Harry Potter naked onstage. I'm sure that he is looking to shed the image of the character, but isn't this a little drastic?
Then again, there have been productions of "Equus" in which Alan and Jill don't get naked, they just get down to their underwear or whatever. Maybe they'll just do it that way.

why must he go nude? i'm not that familiar with the play.
Hah...it's some play, RentBoy. We studied it my senior year of high school. Brilliant work, but definitely has some disturbing plot points. I would NOT reccomend it to your run-of-the-mill Harry Potter fan.
Specifically, I believe the nude scene occurs when he's riding the horses and masturbating? It's been a few years since I read the play or saw the movie. I believe there is also a rather painful love scene that occurs.

In the original production, masturbating while riding the horses was implied but there was no nudity at that point. It came near the end of the play when Jill tries to seduce Alan in the barn -- once they are both naked, Alan's realization that the horses are seeing him about to desecrate the "sacred" place causes him to go mad and blind all the horses. It's quiet a riveting piece of theater. I saw Anthony Perkins play Dr. Dysart ... and the first time I had seen full total nudity (male and female) onstage. And it is absolutely necessary for the play.

It's all moot. Harry Potter will still be filming when the play is supposed to go into rehearsals. Harry Potter may still be filming when the play is scheduled to open. Not to mention all the publicity that is required of the actors. Exactly when is Radcliffe supposed to do this? I believe Warner Bros. actually confirmed that he would NOT be in this play. I like how the original article neglected the fact that Radcliffe and Brannagh were also in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets together, which is how they met.
Maybe they will work it around his filming schedule. I would think that since he is still doing the movies, it may be a limited run. I was also wondering if his contract was exclusive with Warner Bros. until the Harry Potter films are done. We haven't seen any of the 3 kids in anything else. At least not to my knowledge.

Radcliffe just finished filming December Boys in Australia (or was it New Zealand). Rupert grint and Julie Waters just opened their film "Driving Lessons" at a film festival. So they aren't exclusively under contract. However, there is no way they can film Harry Potter around a play schedule. It's not happening.
I would say that since we are not involved, we don't know what will happen!

According to a representative who cantacted a popular Harry Potter fansite (one which is never wrong), Dan Radcliffe is NOT scheduled to do anything than Harry Potter through the end of 2006. Then he has his A Tests to prepare for. He isn't doing a play.
Which website?
Probably www.danradcliffe.co.uk. It's not an official site, but Dan and Dan's reps have sent news and updates there before, so it's more or less endorsed by them. I believe that's where I read the denial of the Equus rumors too.
(Yep, I'm a HP nerd.)
Thanks Type_A
BTW - many actors have filmed movies AND worked in the theatre.
It's a lot of work, but not impossible.
And isn't he past, or close to past, the age where he can only work on the films a limited amount of hours a day?

Not a heavy special effects film, and most certainly not when they can't rehearse an actual play because they are filming a movie. You are referring to heavily regarded (or influential) actors who can easily have filming schedules revolve around a play they are interested in doing. Daniel Radcliffe, who is just now legally able to film long days, has no such influence. Also, Warner Bros. is not going to delay production on a cash cow like this, though they might as well. The liklihood that the Final Book in the series and the fifth film are to be released at the same time is increasingly large. But also, Daniel radcliffe, is still in school.
Well, I didn't say he SHOULD do it.

I agree that he should do it...A good transition role for him.
I would think that if it is true that he expressed an interest in doing the play, he must know that there is some way he can do it and the film.
