Daniel Radcliffe will head the cast of an upcoming New York reading of 1961 tuner "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," marking the first musical turn for the "Harry Potter" star.
Producers Broadway Across America, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are test driving the project for a potential Rialto revival.

Posted: 10/9/09 at 8:55amI think it's great that he's trying mew things and he seems to have stage presence, but I wish he had chosen something a little more interesting.

Oh, he defiantly has the charisma for Finch! Diana would be a cute Rosemary as well.... I would love to see this happen
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu

Posted: 10/9/09 at 10:55amI've never seen How to Succeed abbreviated as "Trying". I thought it was a new play.

Posted: 10/9/09 at 11:07amI heard a rumor this is going to be recorded for PBS. Is this true?

Posted: 10/9/09 at 11:14amPhyllis, actually it was going to be taped but it fell through. If you search "Harry Potter" + "Trying" + "Alice Ripley" on "That Site" you'll find a nice surprise, though!

Posted: 10/9/09 at 11:36amIs Rob Ashford now going to direct/choreograph everything? He's better than Robert Longbottom but about on par with Joe Mantello in the inspiration department.

Posted: 10/9/09 at 12:01pmI wore out my H2$ cast recording when I was in high school. I'd love to see this make it to Broadway with Radcliffe as Ponty.

Posted: 10/9/09 at 12:09pmI don't know if he can sing, but I know I will surely go see this if it transfers. Radcliffe said he wanted to come back in a musical, and this would be a good one for him.

He's apparently been taking voice lessons for a while and he sang at the Easter Bonnet competition with the Equus cast...he's not bad. At the very least he isn't tone-deaf, so I think he'll manage all right.
I thought he was fantastic in Equus and I would love to see him onstage again.

Posted: 10/9/09 at 12:50pmH2$ is much less well-known today than it was at the time it came out, and the Matthew Broderick revival was quite awhile ago. I think it's a marvellous choice.

Posted: 10/9/09 at 1:02pmI can't think of a better vehicle for someone like Radcliffe to make his musical debut. And if this ever makes it to Broadway, it will be 15 years since the Broderick revival opened.
