Just a PSA, I came within seconds of buying Fiddler tickets last night before noticing that an understudy was listed for Tevye in the lobby. Apparently Danny Burstein is on vacation this week. The box office would not commit to whether he would be back next week, though I would expect/hope so.
I couldn't find this info posted anywhere else, so I wanted to share in case others were looking for a show this week during a month of few new openings, and wanted to see him.
I'm sure his understudy is talented and engaging, but I've been a fan of Burstein for years and only intend to see the show once, so I'm going to hold out for his return.

A NYT profile on Michael C. Bernardi, published on Monday, mentions that he would be playing Tevye this week. There's no mention of when Danny returns:

Per social media, Danny Burstein appears to be taking a vacation this week and his standby Adam Grupper is going on for most of the performances. (Good for him!)

I saw Grupper earlier this month. I was initially disappointed that Burstein was out, but Grupper didn't disappoint. The overall production leaves a lot to be desired, though.

Thanks for sharing this news...
Was seriously considering going tomorrow night through TDF...
They made no mention of the fact that Burstein is out...

I haven't seen Grupper's Tevye but loved him in Encores' Merrily (and also Wicked and Addams Family). I imagine he would be a great Tevye. (He also somehow makes the Rabbi a memorable and interesting character in this Fiddler production)

Saw Adam Grupper back in May and at first I was a bit disappointed that I would be missing Danny, that disappointment soon went away. Adam is phenomenal! He puts so much emotion into the role, he was one of the best understudies I have ever seen. I raved about him so much to a friend that my friend really wanted to see him perform, so I contacted Adam on Twitter at the time and he said he would be performing this week. My friend has booked especially to see Adam. I can guarantee that anyone who sees Adam in this role is in for a treat! :)

I noticed that, too, and I'm surprised because TDF is usually very transparent about when a lead cast member will not be performing. They prevented me from seeing The Color Purple on a day Heather had a concert obligation, which I was extremely grateful!

I had the pleasure of seeing Adam in Wicked a few years back and can agree that he is a wonderful performer. I have not seen his Tevye, but I can imagine that it is nothing short of magical.

Piano Mann, you are correct. They usually are very transparent when someone will not be performing...

I am going to both Fiddler(matinee) and Hamilton on 9/3. I'd like to see Danny, but I have to say I'm a whole lot more anxious about certain Hamilton cast members taking an extra long weekend then.

Curious that Danny would be out this week when sales are usually good until next week..I would think one would wait until the slower days after Labor Day.
I did see Fiddler again this past Friday with TDF tix and while I really like the production, there was a more comic feel to it that I didn't get when I first saw it in March. The character of Motel was way overplayed for laughs which surprised me as I was very impressed in March with the actor at that time but not as much the second time. The actor who played Perchek was excellent this time as opposed to my recollection last time. Funny how you can see a show twice and have such a different perspective each time. I suppose that's what makes live theatre so great.

Bernardino is the son of Herschel Bernardi who was one of the replacement Tevyes during the show's original run. He is often credited with giving one of the finest performances of the role.
