Well, yeah, I think we're all in agreement she is too old for the movie now. But she remains the definitive Mimi. I've never seen anyone as moving or exciting in the role. As has been said, many times again, she was the heart of the original production.
Did you really have to start an entire thread just to insult her?

Wow, she went on tour with RENT? Ugh, do you think she could still pull off the role though?

I'm not insulting her. I am just saying how everyone thought about why she didn't get the part. At first I wanted her to until I saw her picture. And I agree that she is the best Mimi ever.
You said (paraphrased for proper English) you're glad she's not in the movie and that she looks old. On my planet, those are insults. At the very least, it's rude.
Still, why did you have to start another thread on a topic that's been discussed ad nauseum for the past 11 months, just to announce your opinion?

Give it up and go retake English. She aged. Big deal. Natural part of life. She is still an incredible actress and singer.

Daphne basically made Mimi. she's fierce. I saw her at the Elvis Costello Concert and she looks AMAZING up close--her face and body. She's so tiny and cute and very cool. She doesn't look old at all in person--she doesn't look 19, but she looks like late 20s or early 30s. Great, great body. Maybe her pictures make her look older, but in person, she looks great. Also, it's pretty rude to say someone looks old..
Angel- I'm sure you didn't see Daphne in Rent as what you have posted suggests you are younger than 14. So how can you judge her peformance? And I agree, starting a thread about this is very rude. Shame on you.

Rosario was very good as Mimi. HOWEVER, Daphne will forever be the original, definative Mimi. There's no matching her voice and the emotion she puts into those songs. It's something that, sadly, is sadly lacking in the film.
Yes, she aged. So did the rest of the cast. But if you've had the pleasure of seeing Daphne in person lately I'm pretty sure you'll agree that she could have pulled it off.

I agree she is a great singer though. Please no harm I was just letting my opinion out. Everyone has there opinions and so do I so please forgive me. Let's get this in the past please I am sorry everyone and Daphne maybe yuor right how she looks better in person I wouldn't know so just forget it all.
Daphne didn't tour in RENT per say, she did the return engagement at the Shubert in Los Angeles and in San Francisco. That's it.
Ah the good old Shubert. I miss that theater SOOOOO much! I ushered that "return engagement" for fun and to see the show for free - Daphne was really good, and I can only imagine how much better she was performing with the OBC. Must've been a bit weird for her to reprise the role with a whole new group of people though.
This thread pisses me off. Why start a thread to insult someone? And ya know what? Most of us on here KNOW what DRV looks like.
lol yes, Daphne is older than 19 and *gasp shock* she looks older than 19 and 20 but she still looks damn good and is doing really amazing work outside of her RENT life, yay!

We know what she looks like so why start a thread just to insult her?

Daphne will be doing a concert on Jan. 9th at Joe's Pub.

Who was the dweeb who said "she didn't get the part because she aged?" She was pregnant and simply couldn't do the movie role because it was physically demanding...and didn't call for a pregnant Mimi. (duh)
I ventured into this thread hoping it was news about Daphne... not some post insulting her. Ugh.
Ooo... Joe's Pub, thanks for reminding us.
Isn't that odd, that people who are older tend to look older? Hmm...imagine that.
This is just speculation, but I'm guessing Daphne didn't get the part in the film because she wasn't offered the part in the film.
I, for one, believe the movie will always be lacking something very important because it lacked Daphne. Did I enjoy the movie? Yes. But I would have enjoyed it a lot more with Daphne, regardless of how "old" she looks.

in the vein of Will Ferrel and Uma being in the producers I think that the producers of the movie saw a possible opening in the original cast (Mimi) and sought a bigger name for the role. they also gave her top billing and I think that more than anything else, it shows how focused on money the producers were, completely against the heart of rent.

The billing on the film, like the show, was alphabetical. Just so happens "Dawson" comes before all the other seven principal actors' names.
"I think that more than anything else, it shows how focused on money the producers were, completely against the heart of rent."
Let's get real here. If they were trying to make the film commercial, they weren't trying very hard. They could've done a lot more to commercialize the movie as far as casting and cutting things and all that if that was really the intention.

You should watch what you say. Daphne and Anthony Rapp read this board as do many Industry Leaders.
You are just a child and you just proved the old saying that children are to be seen and not heard.
Now go back to your room and pick up a spelling/english book and study a bit because you obviously need some assistance in those areas.
You are a horrible speller and you just butchered our English Language along with insulting a very dear member of the Broadway community.
