God forbid. I'm sorry. Britney cannot act. She cannot sing. She can dance, but that's about it. She should leave this one to the professionals. This seems like a horrible rumor, which it most likely is.

That was my thought....I haven't actually SEEN her act (do pepsi commercials count ?), but I am not even a LITTLE impressed with her singing. On Broadway she wouldn't have the benefit of a full mixing board to make her sound better ![]()
Hmmm....That gives me an idea for a new thread...

This is all a cruel, cruel joke isn't it???
How can her handlers encourage this with a straight face.
And, speaking of keeping a straight face--who on earth would be the poor guy to play Professor Henry Higgins. Anyone into career suicide these days?

Please please PLEASE tell me that's a joke. Britney on broadway. But hey, maybe she'll lip-synch and have someone with broadway vocal talent do her singing? As for the acting, well, we're screwed. But I have to hand it to her, she can dance.
But any way, I think this rumor gives a really scary realization to what is already happening to Broadway. It is becoming the place where so-so actors come to prove that they are really good, when often they are not. There are some exceptions, like Hugh Jackman, but really, Brooke Shields in Cabaret (when I saw it)?? It's gonna be a sad world for the next generation of Broadway.

This does put new perspective on the staging of Eliza's bath.
Bubbles...mmmm...
Does pygmalion or the book of the musical ever specify that Eliza be a brunette?

Posted: 3/24/04 at 1:20pmCouldn't agree more - gagging at the thought of Brit on Broadway - but have to say this is one of the funniest threads I've read all day! BIG belly laughs out loud!!! Ok - so now people in my office are staring and asking questions . . . This is right up there with the thread about hot chorus boys!

Posted: 3/24/04 at 1:37pmI think I finally get it. Anthony, trained operaine that she is, considers his fixations on fairly middle of the road pop phenomena to be his sorta down 'n' dirty "slumming" experience. But, instead of championing anything that actually has any grit, he goes for Your Mother's Favorites: The Next Generation every time. "Whitney's medly of blah blah blah...." When anybody points this out, he comes back with his highly edumicated opinions about voices of generations and tosses in his trained technical lingo. This way he can have it both ways. Please, Anthony, go punk rock.

Posted: 3/24/04 at 3:44pmMUUAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Gotcha Voiceanth! A popstar thread sans accolades and tour schedules. You snooze, you lose. What took you so long, anyway? Too much Madonna research? Since it involves musical theatre, it is most certainly a fair post. If it was about her swollen ankle or whatever, I wouldn't have touched it. If J-Lo revives Prettybelle, it's her own damn fault. Might as well call it Gigli 2.

"I don't post any Karen Ziemba stories (as if there are any)!"
BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!! Line of the day!
I want to see this just so I can see the streets littered with broken chorines, stumbling about strung out and hung over muttering 'why wasn't it me, god, why wasn't it me?' And god will look at them and say 'who are you again?'

Somewhere, someone is placing a call to Marni Nixon.
Good to know the old broad can still get work!
PS...I, for one, always thought that in a few years, Britney would make a wonderful Queenie in the HBO Films adaptation of Michael John LaChiusa's THE WILD PARTY.
