Are the Marquis, St. James, Winter Garden and New Amsterdam theatres really all going to be dark during the lucrative holiday season?
So far yes. There were rumors of an Alan Cumming/Liza Minelli concert at the Marquis, but that has not yet been confirmed. It is hosting Il Divo for a week next month. I believe the New Amsterdam may still be undergoing renovation.
I wouldn't be surprised if one of the seasonal holiday shows (Elf, Xmas Story, Grinch) announced a return in the next few weeks, which could fill up one or more of those theaters. But like frogs_fan85 said, the New Amsterdam will still be undergoing renovations.
A CHRISTMAS STORY already announced it's coming back this year...to the Theater at MSG.
White Christmas is about due for a return. ONLY if they use Louizos's original set design. Not the cheap and tacky tour version.
Thanks Clyde, I must have missed that announcement.
Winter Garden will also surely be joining the New Amsterdam in the renovations club, with ROCKY requiring some fancy seating modification for the final fight, no?
This thread is racist.

I'm not sure if the last two posters are serious. The term "dark theatres" has been around forever and has always meant closed. I apologize if I offended anyone.
Ivan - they are just being snarky. You haven't been on this board long, so consider this your warning. There is lots of snarkiness, sarcasm, and bitchiness here.
Memphis and The Color Purple have return engagements for the holidays...
I'm sure the "racism" comments were jokes -- "dark theater" is indeed a term for one that doesn't have a show or, if I'm not mistaken, a day when there is no performance.
I'm sure our resident snarkmeisters would have a ball with "dark humor" and "black humor," meaning grim humor. And I shudder to think how they'd respond to a discussion of the evolutionary changes from homo erectus to homo sapiens...
