Dave Malloy's BEARDO is available for free streaming for the next two weeks

In 2011, Dave Malloy and Jason Craig wrote BEARDO, a musical (or "SongPlay" as they called it at the time) about the life of Rasputin. For two weeks only, it is available to watch for free via Shotgun Players's vimeo account:

This is nothing like GREAT COMET or OCTET or even GHOST QUARTET. All of Dave Malloy's shows are very different, and this is by no means a high-art masterpiece. That's not to say it isn't amazing, it's just nowhere near the level of something like COMET. Instead, it is a world premiere proshot of a gritty experimental weird show. But as a fan of all things Rasputin, Malloy, and strange, I love it.

As a huge Molloy fan I saw this at a church in Brooklyn and this... this just ain't it.

Oh, I disagree! I loved it so much I saw it twice, though I do admit the farcical murder scene dragged a bit the second time. I'm so happy we have this filmed production, though it's a bit different from what the show was in Greenpoint. "God Juice" was almost completely rewritten after this production, and was the highlight of the Greenpoint version for me.

Add me to the camp that LOVED the Pipeline Theatre production in Brooklyn. I, too, went back and saw it a second time. There are several moments that have stayed with me since. I’m looking forward to watching this production.

Yeah. I didn't hate that it was a site-specific production but I hated a lot about that production.

The filmed production has its moments, especially early in the show. It was interesting to watch, especially because it was first produced shortly before Great Comet and there are more than a few times I heard echoes of music in the later musical.
