I realize that he injured his hand, but I don't think that is the reason he hasn't returned to the show.
neon, that's fine but you don't know and neither do I, but the difference between us is that I don't make presumptions that someone unjustifiably bailed.
pinto, you don't know either, but I would think that, even with your extremely limited experience you would be able to understand the difference between being on vacation and singing, dancing, gesturing, getting in costume, applying makeup, handling props and the many other things that would be required for his part that is "not very big" to you. I hope some day you get a part that's half as big.
well considering I'm not in a show, i already have a part thats half as big

BWW's Village Idiot?
I don't know exactly what's going on with his involvement in the show, but I do think it's worse that it hasn't been addressed. Typically when something pops up on this board, the site ends up reporting it. There hasn't been any mention of it on the actual site while people continue to speculate and assume he's unhappy with the show/his part/etc.
I saw the show, and he was one of the reasons I wanted to see it. Was curious about the guy who has been standing in the shadows of his husband for the last ten years. The part didn't really give him much to do, but it was still nice to see him in his own spotlight. Hope he returns or addresses why he's out.
I'm also surprised there was nothing even along the lines of "BWW could not reach Burtka or the production for comment." They've definitely followed up on similar gossipy situations before.
???
Mr Pinto. Have no idea what you are talking about . I do not think I am the only one who feels the same way.
I seem to recall that Danny Kaye did a lot of singing, dancing, and even some gesturing (so I hear) with his leg in a cast for Two By Two. There are a lot of stories like that on Broadway.
Now, I can't say that I really care one little bit, but I don't remember Burtka doing any lifts, handstands, or cartwheels when I endured the show. It's difficult to presume that a mere hand injury, even a broken hand or sprained wrist (that doesn't seem to show in photos) would necessarily drive him from the show... unless, perhaps, he wasn't interested in staying with the show - and there's precedent for that, too! (Carol Burnett in Fade Out, Fade In.)
But you know what? No one will remember any of this, and probably in less than a week. Let's just playfully conjecture until then. It does no harm, and it's slightly diverting.
I agree it's odd that there have not only been no announcements, but also no tweets or anything else on the subject. It makes me wonder if there is something else going on between the parties.
This is why I think Burtka should just tweet something or the show should release a statement. The speculation is worse.
Good grief. Pretending you know the truth about Burtka's absence doesn't make you cool. Neither does making nasty remarks about him based on nothing more than assumptions. Maybe he left the show with the blessing of the producers. Wouldn't be the first time. Maybe he was asked to leave. Also wouldn't be the first time. It's not as if he's a high-profile star of a high-profile show like those who get "mercury poisoning". WTF difference does it make to any of us? And what leads people to believe NPH was so eager to have him in a supporting of THIS PARTICULAR SHOW that he paid to have Burtka cast or used his celebrity to get him in the show? Because the buzz on this show was so overwhelmingly positive? Because it sounded like a sure-fire runaway smash hit? Nobody thought that maybe NPH was trying to bolster the cast with names as much as he could and just asked Burtka to play the role? Whether or not Burtka was his first choice is certainly debatable, but it is WAY more plausible than NPH throwing his weight around to land Burtka this role in this show. And even by some bizarre coincidence he did, so what? Again, wouldn't be the first time. I saw Marla Maples in Will Rogers Follies. She was genuinely terrible. That's been part of the business since the business was in business.
This gossip reads like the Facebook tweens on Idina Menzel. 1% truth and 99% fictionalized drama.
He is a Broadway neophyte and may not know. Than again, you think NPH would tell him the correct thing to do. Maybe he did & Burtka simply ignored the advice. He is gone and the show is closing. Time to move on.

What are YOU talking about? PLEASE tell me what i said that you didn't understand
"i already have a part thats half as big"
How do you know how big his is?!
If you have to ask, there is nothing I can say to you.
lmfaoo. Hater, we missed you on the board :)
Roxy, you ALWAYS say that!! When someone asks me a question, i address it!! You just brush it away and say there is nothing you can say anymore.
Matty:
I did not read everything that leads up to your outburst. My eye went right to your posting simply because I have been reading and participating here with you for years. I just wanted to say that I think this over analyzing to the reasons for Burtkas exit is part of the territory and part of the monster ( for lack of a better word) that he and his hubby created. While in hollywood the nepotism got Burtka opened doors to many auditions he did not book. You go down West Hollywood and there is a huge billboard with the two of them for some clothing line. He is presented in such as a celebrity we should all know. They also made many interviews in which they said that they were moving to New York after "Mother" ended so that David could resume his career. They were on interviews saying how now Neil would be taking care of the kids while David concentrated on his show. They opened the gates to the gossip. It might be wrong.. but it certainly comes off in a bad way that he did not complete his commitment to the show for WHATEVER REASON. They used the publicity machine so much.... that I think we have the right to gossip and speculate all we want.
"lmfaoo. Hater, we missed you on the board :)"
Thanks. Not sure I am "back" back, probably more of a tourist anymore. heh.
I thought Roxy was responding to Hate's off color comment, not to you Pintobean.
ohh
Hater, why did you leave? You got sick of us?
Oh, that wasn't an outburst. I've only had one outburst this year and that included the phrase "magic meat stick". When I burst out, you'll definitely know.
I just wondered how all this silly OTT speculation turned into a thing. The closest reasonable explanation is probably DAME's and not just because of my unconditional love of DAME. Perhaps they did create their own gossip machine. It was the connection to this particular show that I found particularly funny. Nothing about it seems gossip-worthy in any way whatsoever, but I guess it's just me. Maybe Todd Spiewak leaving an obscure flop musical that nobody talked about will legitimately be buzz-worthy should the day arrive and even then, I still probably won't get why.
"Hater, why did you leave? You got sick of us?"
No, mainly been working on my novel and other things. I really just don't care about 86.3% of what is discussed here, from awards to grosses to what is coming in next at this theater and on and on... not that there is anything wrong if other people want to discuss such things, of course. Have at it!
I still go to shows all the time (saw JCM in Hedwig 8X, Darren last week, chatted with Darren after the Spelling Bee show on Monday, School of Rock concert version, etc., etc.), and still like using the site for helping to make a decision when I'm on the fence for a show, but otherwise, I'm trying to focus my time not at the theater reading (most of all), writing, or just chilling out with a movie or something.
I only de-cloaked now since I'm potentially selling a ticket for the Last Party for next week and figured I should list it here.

Unrelated note: ONCE, just ONCE I would like to click on a thread that hasn't been ruined by a certain poster(s) getting into completely unnecessary arguments about the most trivial things.
JUST ONCE.
*the ignore user function is looking nicer by the day.
Related Note: And put me in the camp that Burtka's absence needs to be addressed in some form.

It would also be great for those of us who are tired of reading complaints about someone we've already blocked!
