Has David left entirely? He is no longer even on the board and his understudy has been in for quite some time... Anyone got the scoop?

He just recorded the cast album with them

Recording the cast album means nothing re him being in the show now.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago and he exited the show mid-way through...right after that father-son song & dance number...and a cover took over soon after.

His voice seemed fine and he wasn't swaying side to side or anything. But maybe the ridiculousness of that number finally dawned on him...

When I saw the show his voice was super horse. But maybe that's just his normal speaking voice?

I was at that same performance, Kiwi. He apparently cut his hand, so nothing major.

I found it interesting though that his name is no longer even on the cast board in the lobby.

He tweeted on June 28th that NPH took him on a trip of a lifetime.  So maybe just vacation?

That vacation with NPH was when he was supposed to be out until the 28th. He mentioned that while on vacation, he was also on vocal rest. He could certainly be out on ordered vocal rest

Vocal rest?! For this show? He barely sings. He needs to learn how to yell without destroying his voice. I'm appalled that he'd be out on vocal rest for this part.

According to NPH's Instagram, Burtka is with he and their kids in East Hampton right now. So perhaps a scheduled vacation?

Maybe he saw the handwriting on the wall and bailed out. He also may have tired of doing 8 a week.

He's been on vocal rest for a couple of weeks. He's still in the show.

He sings for about 8 minutes total. Vocal rest? Wow....

I find the idea of vocal rest extremely laughable. 

Sure, someone may be sick and can't really sing but it is definitely the truth when there is next to nothing for him to sing in this show.

He is on medical leave. I would assume from timing, it may have to do with his hand injury.

Personal Day, which can be sick leave, vacation, or an unpaid day off.
