In my opinion, if they are going to adapt DEH into a non-theatrical medium, it should be as a 7 episode series on netflix.

My guess is that he's referencing the new netflix show 13 Reasons Why, based on the Young Adult Novel of the same name. Considering 13 Reasons Why has received as much if not more critical praise as DEH I am sure no one will be adapting it anytime soon to avoid comparisons. Add to that 13 Reasons Why is a much darker and more realistic story of the 13 Reasons why 17 year old Hannah Baker commits and how it affects those around her, which I am only sure further hurts the chances of a rushed adaption of the melodramatic dark comedy that is DEH.

Breaking a two act musical into a 7 episode tv series, each with its own 3 act structure, makes a ton of sense.
And agreed, somebody watched 13 Reasons Why and Big Little Lies...

While we're talking about 13 Reasons Why, I think that Dylan Minnette does a really amazing job playing an Evan Hansen-type character. Apparently, in real life, he's also the lead singer in a band. Granted, this is neither here nor there, but it does give me hope that they'll be able to find the right actor to fill Ben Platt's shoes. But I digress...

Well, considering Yorkey is one of the two men responsible for one of the best musicals of all time, I think he's up for the job.
