I was talking with my friend about Dear Evan Hansen and he told me that his friend saw the show at its first preview in DC and his friend claimed that Evan killed himself after Words Fail. I told him that i found that hard to believe considering the shows message. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Just to reaffirm, I saw the second D.C. preview and that was not the case.

They did have a slight change to the ending at Second Stage, in which the Murphys reveal Evan's lies and Zoe references that she saw the hateful things people were posting about him online. They changed it for Broadway to the current ending, but it was never anything that extreme.

I'm guessing that this conversation took place on April 1.

having read Steven Levenson's other work, I could believe that being an earlier draft.

Was it like that for all of its second stage run?

By a week after opening night at Second Stage, it was changed to where the Murphys keep his secret, so no.
