This thread is so inane. Why would a comment like his bother any of you to any extent. You are saying that he isn't open to being criticized, but you are ganging up (or whatever this is) on him for his annoyance with you. I'm not even mad (a little annoyed maybe), but I sincerely just don't understand.
(the collective "you", no one in particular. Second person sounds aggressive.)

"ganging up (or whatever this is)"
Either it's ganging up or it isn't. And it isn't.

Bwaytday, where are we ganging up?
Seriously, this is the Internet. If you put your name and ideas online, you give up any right to not have people discuss you and/or them.

Posted: 2/12/13 at 10:38pmI kinda think comparing this to what happened to Tyler Clementi is worse than anything said in this thread or the other. It makes me sick, but I'm glad you removed it.

Posted: 2/12/13 at 10:41pmSorry, I used "ganging up" because I didn't have a better phrase for it. I wasn't wishy-washily qualifying my statement. I don't know, I don't really think any of this is productive. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Posted: 2/12/13 at 10:42pmWell Johnnycantdecide decided a good decision in removing one of the most offensive things I've read here in a while (my overly sexual posts excluded, obviously).

Okay, that's fair. That comment did not express my thoughts like I wanted them expressed.
Let me try again:
You never know how people will react to things. You never know how people will see things a perceive them.
Comparing this to the situation at Rutgers was stupid. Obviously the situation at Rutgers was a huge national tragedy and a eye opener to how bad homophobia/bullying is in this country. And this is no way the same thing.
Making a comparison was stupid and a knee jerk reaction and you deserved to jump all over me,
What I was trying to say is that bullying (or things that may be viewed as bullying) is harmful. Again, you never know how someone will react to something. Someone could see a post critiquing exclusively them and take it as mocking them. Or bullying them. And it could spark underlying depression. Or could do any number of things.
It's scary the power of the Internet and computers have on people.
Luckily, Tyler thinks this is hilarious. But what happens if you guys did this to someone who did not think it was so funny? What if this was a thread about someone other college age kids twitter who took this and had their mind overblown it?

Posted: 2/12/13 at 10:48pmI'm so sick of people calling people not agreeing with them "bullying". You're cheapening the experience of kids who are actually bullied (which is characterized by repeated interactions, a constant and ongoing torrent of physical, emotional, psychological abuse) by saying that somebody getting some crap for something they said online is bullying.

Posted: 2/12/13 at 10:52pmI guess I don't understand why you keep bringing up that he's college aged? Shouldn't college aged people know enough that Twitter accounts are public?

Ha! I actually replied to the other thread and still can't see it normally.
Kelly, if you hit reply, you can see the posts post-Namo's 7:38 post.

Posted: 2/12/13 at 10:57pmTyler is an adult, we aren't talking about a middle or high schooler here. I do not see bullying anywhere in this thread or even the other thread. It's disgusting that people are calling this bullying. Aime AND Tyler have both put themselves out there publicly, there is no reason why a public forum cannot discuss their stories, etc.

Again likening someone with a public profile on Twitter and someone who consents to a profile in the NY Times on the same level as someone who is victimized is wrong.
Public profile=open to public reactions.
Not bullying.
Again, if the thought of people critiquing you feels scary and mean, don't go public with your life and thoughts.

This is getting ridiculous, and this thread won't even be here in the morning.
1) Because of the subject matter
2) Because it's a thread started by Jordan. Those could be harmless and still be deleted.
I personally think the "is this bullying? or is this fair critique in response to critique" debate would be better at another time.

ljay, maybe he IS friends with them.
But stuff like that will make sure this thread is deleted. There's actually an interesting conversation here, like within that other thread about people who openly discuss a topic (whatsherface with ONCE and Tyler with BWW) and people's ability (at least on this forum) to discuss it. In my opinion, Tyler posting about us made it ok for us to discuss it, but making fun of him is different.

Posted: 2/12/13 at 11:20pmWhat a bunch of PC bullsh*t that other thread turned into. Don't put yourself in an article in the New York Times for all to see if you don't want people to talk about you. Common sense 101.

Why don't we start an OT thread about defining the line between fair criticism, picking on someone, and actual bullying? Then, we could let this thread die (no offense, Jordan) and take a serious discussion away from it that will last longer than 7:30 AM EST.
And someone just tweeted that they are in the restroom of a Buffalo Wild Wings. I hate the internet sometimes.
