Did anyone see this tour? Why did it close so fast?
Also, does anyone else remember the musical she was writing in the 90,s called "Skirts" I think? Did that ever make it to a reading?
I remember it was supposed to come to Denver and they cancelled the run because it was so bad and thought the Denver audiences deserved better.
I can't see her as Fanny, but she was a very good Louise in Papermill's Gypsy, opposite Betty Buckley back in 1998 (Lenny Wolpe was a terrific Herbie).
Saw it. Well...at least the first act. Can't remember too much about it except that it looked like it was done on the cheap. The sets and costumes looked like they were pulled from a rental house that specialized in mismatched show pieces. Everything was wrinkled! The show also appeared seriously under-rehearsed.
I remember this was a huge deal!! My sister and I were huge fans of Debbie and we got really great seats in the Orchestra - but that's about as much as I remember of the entire experience!!!!
Check out the clip in this message. It used to be on YouTube.com, but now I'm only able to find it on some French website. I think this was a promo clip for TV stations.

The legendary review quote: "They should have just changed the title to 'GIRL'."
That looks so awful. I sure hope the revival (if it actually happens) will be better than this.
And then she put out an album of classic showtunes at the same time as the tour.
It was honestly one of the worst things I have ever heard. Ever.

The direction looks awful. She seems ok. Not great, by any means, but not as terrible as the direction.

It's funny, having heard an audio she wasn't very good...(Robert Westenberg was) but I actually rather liked her in those clips.
Didn't she "break" her ankle after about 4 stops?
