Can anyone else Debra Monk making one helluva Ursula besides me?
Well considering that Disney is going the Sherie Rene route, I don't think that Monk fits into the Ursula mold that they're creating.

Regardless of that, I just couldn't help but help but think how incredible she'd be after seeing her in CURTAINS.
Ursula's been cast, and Monk has a job.
Honestly, iluv, is CURTAINS the first time you've ever seen her? Otherwise, I can't imagine you wouldn't have come up with this "idea" from the off.
'Nuff said.

I've seen Monk a few times. And I know Urusla has been cast. Who cares? I was wondering if anyone else thought she'd be good?
You people need to pull those ten foot poles out of your a**es.
Is it 'cause they're both fat? I'm sorry, heavy? You know how I feel about THOSE people.
Not unless you want to be bored to tears.
You think Debra is less interesting than Sherie?
You've got to be kidding.
At least Sherie Rene has a vibrato.
You've lost me. You can't be saying that Debra doesn't.
Not a natural one.
Listen to her "Ladies Who Lunch" for proof.
While some say Debra was a miscast Joanne. Her RISES at the end of Ladies are pretty amazing and powerful.
I've heard it - definitely not her finest moment. But, having heard many other recordings, and seen her in 4 Broadway shows, I will attest to the fact that she has vibrato, and a strong, powerful singing voice.
Powerful? Seriously? Really?
I think they're very powerful. You can really feel her breaking down.
See I find her forced (love her as an actress, so this isn't a Monk bashing) and often feel like her voice never sits right on the music. I guess from such a big lady, I expected a bigger voice. Doesn't seem to match her persona. Just my little gay opinion.
Well, she's better than Sheila Gish, but that's not saying much.

Has nothing to do with weight at all, SM2.
One of her moments in CURTAINS is deliciously Ursula-like and I was itching to see more. Debra Monk is one helluva performer. While she's at CURTAINS, I wouldn't mind seeing her read the phone book either.
I disagree, Bobby. I think she has a big powerful voice when called for (Everybody's Girl, anything from CURTAINS), and can also put over a poignant, heartbreaking song with the best of 'em (Somebody Older).
I like her Everybody's Girl but I disagree if you're saying the vibrato she's producing is natural or comes easy to her. I think she has to work on her singing, unlike many other divas who just have the gift.
And now that I'm thinking about it, isn't she off-key in "Somebody Older"?
Oh, see I feel that way about Ebersole. It seems to me like her voice is contrived and she's still working hard. Doesn't make her bad.
Debra's voice is more natural to me, if only for the fact that you can't hear her "switching."
See, I can hear her switching.
Maybe we just have different tastes (pun intended)! I think Ebersole's voice is natural as-can-be.
LOL!
I've seen Grey Gardens twice and while I won't dispute that Ebersole is one of the better singers on Broadway for sure, it's not a natural sound to me. The only time she really sounds natural to me is when she's singing that aria on the stairs, which is odd, because that's VERY high and difficult.
