i know i've posted this before, but i was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences
i was recently at an eisteddfodd and in one section a young asian girl of about 16 got up to sing. When aked what she was singing she answered "Tink of Mir" I initially thought she was singing an asian folk song, but i recognised the introduction. She starts singing, and i had to fight not to laugh. She sang "tink of mir, tink of mir fondri oohen we said goodbaaai. Lemembel mir, once in ooohire prease plomise me you'rr tlaaaai" and to make matters worse, she also sang Raoul's part "can it be Chlistine?".
It's unfair that some singing teachers let students enter these competitions when they are so obviously bad...because the whole audience we're biting their lips, hands, brothers etc to try and stop themselves from laughing
I cannot hear this song now and not raff...i mean laugh
any similar experiences?

Posted: 11/16/04 at 8:32pmThe Rapunzel I saw in Into the Woods was terrible. She couldn't reach the notes and her voice quality was just bad. Also, I heard a bunch of 10 year olds singing Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now. Amber was just a little disturbing. That same girl was also Eliza in My Fair Lady and was absolutely terrible.

Barnaby...that is terrible! LOL!!!
this girl singing Tink of Mir made is even worse from her actions. She was one of those people who basically does an action for every word, and when she sang raoul's part (y she was singing it I don't know) she was looking all around and she had really big, strange eyes. So she was christine, then all of a sudden she was looking around madly going "can it be christine?"
terribly funny...it was so hard not to laugh

Oh God..."Think of Me" is such an easy one to ruin.
The one that sticks out in my mind is the rendition of "On My Own" performed by Katie Holmes on the first season of Dawson's Creek. Singer, Katie Holmes is not, and not only did her range span less than an octave, but she had horrible spacing in her breathing throughout the entire song. She also failed to communicate any sort of emotion to the audience. The only thing worse than hearing the performance was hearing how every single girl in my HS the day after it aired rave about her performance, "how moving it was," and what a great singer she was.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh, not Katie Holmes. BLAH! Her redition was posted on a thread a while back.
I couldn't stand Missy Elliot's "What I Did For Love" at the Tonys. IMO.

Posted: 11/16/04 at 8:57pm"Open Road" on the NYTW Rent recording. It's amazing the notes that guy *doesn't* hit. And it's such a gorgeous song, too.

Posted: 11/16/04 at 9:02pmI'll second "Open Road". It's a stunning song, but I can't listen to it because of the guy who plays Roger. Words can't fully describe how terrible his voice is.

Posted: 11/16/04 at 9:20pmI swear Larson must have found him sitting in some alley smoking pot and randomly grabbed him and put him on stage...I mean there *has* to be an explanation for this. He is simply too terrible for there not to be.

Posted: 11/16/04 at 11:15pmI think the most disturbing one I saw was watching a documentary on beauty pagent kids and their mothers. Nothing can quite quench the horror of seeing a seven-year-old singing "Hey, Big Spender."

Posted: 11/16/04 at 11:18pmok am I the only one who thought Tony Hoylen sounded sexy on the NYTW recording? ::blushes::: I KNOW he doesn't hit certain notes and all that, but something about his voice makes me swoon. Am I crazy?

Posted: 11/16/04 at 11:19pmI'm definently never a fan of when rap stars take showtunes and try and create rap songs with them... ie "Hard Knock Life" and I know I heard one using a song from Oliver once... leave the showtunes ALONE!!! =P

Ooh...I watched that (the Bravo Pageants Crazy Parents thing) and that guy was HORRIBLE! And the worst part, the mother thought he was amazing. I wanted to cry for him.
How does someone not know they suck? I know when I'm doing bad, and then I stop and sit down. Works for me.

Posted: 11/16/04 at 11:37pmi saw a production of the king and i that the anna was god awful from the start but the worst moment was the final song the heartstring pulling whistle a happy tune reprise when the king dies....well except in her case, she opted to belt it happier than the first time

I love Wing!!!!
Anybody that bad is just plain funny.
Seriously, I first heard her about 3 years ago and I heard Phantom of the Opera. I fell off my chair it was so funny. The whole Wing thing got even funnier when I saw her at The Warehouse (a big chain store in New Zealand) trying to get them to sell her CD for her!
