Rumor she is replacing Kerry Butler. Last 2 actresses in their late 30's so odd they'd cast her but maybe Constantine used a little muscle.

Why would Diana need Constantine to help her get a job? She's been doing just fine getting musical gigs all on her own for 4 years. She's got the perfect voice for the ROA music so if it's true I think she'll kill in the role.

Sherrie is supposed to be 18-20 years old right? Diana's 23 I think, so that makes her the perfect age to play the part. If she isn't in ROA, I wonder if she got a part in the reborn Godspell?

Actually, she's 22 and was one of the first Idol contestants to do Broadway. She would be great in this after just finishing in Toxic Avenger but don't know if it's true. She was auditioning for something recently though.

Rumor? No. This is pure speculation. Diana IS doing a show soon, but she hasn't said anything about which show. It seems likely it being RoA, but there is no rumor about it.

I think that Constantine and Frenchie were in Rent(Tour/Broadway) and Tamyra Gray was in Bombay Dreams a lot before Diana made her Broadway debut in Hairspray. And I'm sure I'm forgetting other American Idol contestants.

Well if it's not true I hope somebody addresses it soon before it gets too far out of control. I'll feel bad for the actress who actually got the role if people spend weeks talking about how great Diana will be in the part, only to find out she never even auditioned for it!

If it isn't ROA, the other options aren't as clear. Nothing else seems logical, unless it's a show that isn't supposed to debut until fall.

I said "one of". She did it in '06 before Constantine did Wedding Singer, Fantasia did Color Purple, Clay did Spamalot, etc, before it was so common place. I think Tamyra was the first Idol finalist to do Broadway. Frenchie, Josh Strickland, etc. never made it to the voting rounds.

Along with Constantine she's made a home in on and off Broadway shows, and a couple touring productions, for 4 years. It's safe to say they are both committed to doing Broadway and have both established themselves beyond AI stunt casting. Good for both of them. Hopefully we'll know soon if she's the new Sherrie or if the ROA thing was a lucky guess by a few hopeful people.

I've also seen people guessing Mary Poppins, Godspell, or In the Heights. For whatever reason, probably the AI thing, the Rock of Ages speculation is more intriguing.

Diana has auditioned for the show (following Spanger's departure) and the producers really loved her.
However, there is some sort of something in the Idol contract that does not allow 2 former contestants to be in one show at the same time.
That doesn't mean with enough money there wouldn't be a loophole.
This statement may be supported by the recent GREESE revival when IDOLS played in the show back to back but never at the same time.

What Idol contract? Diana did Idol 6 years ago and Constantine 5 years ago. They aren't any under any sort of contract with Idol and haven't been for years. If anything, it could be in Constantine's contract?

There are 2 idols currently on the Grease tour (Taylor Hicks and Ace Young).

If Sherrie is supposed to be 18, they did a
bad job of casting two actresses approaching 40! And to the person
who was nitpicking about rumor vs speculation. I guess if it's not a
"rumor" I better play the stock market because I'm a great speculator!!

Tamyra was first in Bombay,Frenchie in Rent , then Diana as Penny, Strickland as Tarzan, Constantine in the Wedding Singer,Fantasia in Color Purple and then Aiken in Spamelot, Ace in Grease and then Hicks. That's the order.

If its true and just not another..... rumor hope they announce it soon. How could Diana do that she has a show in Missouri 2/17 and 2/12 in Nashville.

Edit ; Order only refer to Broadway shows, not tours or local productions.

Naked Maid, there's no AI contract clause preventing two former American Idol contestants from appearing together. In fact, Diana and season 4 contestant/former Fantasticks cast member Anthony Federov did a regional production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" together last summer.

The show only has a contract with the contestants until the end of the summer AI concert tour. Then they are all free of any restrictions.

I have no idea if she's going into Rock of Ages because I've read guesses and speculation on different shows for a few days now. She's definitely coming back to Broadway, but if she doesn't do ROA it won't be because of anything related to American Idol.

You know? I agree with Jerseygirl, although Diana is very talented, I don't think she has the right look, or voice to play Sherrie.
Even Amy or Kerri(although they are in their late 30's) are better suited for that role.

I love Kerry Butler. And I rather enjoy her Sherrie. But, on paper she's the last person who should ever play Sherri.

I hope the rumors are true, though. I do know that she did audition a few months back, and was apparently well liked.

I think she'll be fine, if indeed she's been cast. If it's true that she's auditioned before, the producers have had plenty of opportunity to see her and gauge her ability. People didn't think she'd be a good Penny in Hairspray and she ended up being great. And when she was cast as Sarah in Toxic Avenger people didn't "see" her in the role but she was generally considered to be pretty darn good. I mean, c'mon...this is Rock of Ages we're talking about, not Shakespeare.

She's physically different from Kerry and would be a bustier, curvier Sherrie, but that would be a positive difference considering the role.
