Diana Degarmo as Belle

there's an article on Broadway.com saying she might do it
NO I WONT LET YOU!
"It's a great feeling of power to be naked in front of people. We're happy to watch actual incredible graphic violence and gore, but as soon as somebody's naked it seems like the public goes a bit bananas about the whole thing."

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

Yay! She's so pretty...and not at all like the vapid little girl from "Small Wonder"

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

Don't get too worried yet...weren't LeAnn Rimes and Mandy Moore once also rumored to be taking part in it?

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

Wasn't Mandy rumored to do Wicked too?

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

Yes she was. Of all the insipid girly poptarts in the world, her presence on Broadway would bother me least. I loved her in "Saved."

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

NOOOOOOOO PLEASE DONT LET HER!!!
It was bad enough having Christy Carlson Romano...PLEASE ONLY LET BROADWAY SINGERS TAKE ON LEAD ROLES!!!!!!! :*-(
And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

What would be so bad? How quickly we all forget Christy Carlson Romano...at least DeGarmo can sing.

Cheers, Rath. Christy Carlson Romano...I still don't get it. Other than the Disney to Disney thing. Yikes.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

I am not sure how I feel about this. I know she has the voice. How about the acting?

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

I can actually see her in the part. Then again, I despise the show, and the only half-decent Belle ever was Ms. Egan.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

I don't like her because she stayed while my favorite AI3 contestant got booted off.
I guess she is talented..she does have one hell of a range and I think she's better than Christy CR, but I'd prefer the Susan Egan types back.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

If she can act, I think it could work.

I loved Kerry Butler as Belle. But then again, I think she's utterly divine in everything. I'm surprised Kelly Clarkson hasn't been rumored for Belle.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

Eh, she's got a decent enough voice. I voted for her during AI. (Only after LaToya was gone, though.)

I don't really feel to strongly abut it either way. Christy Romano, on the other hand... (gag)

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

honestly, I wouldnt mind Kelly, I think shes one hell of a singer

But I want Brooke to stay re: Diana Degarmo as Belle
OR give the part to Michelle Federer- I think she'd be good!

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

i think it's a good idea.

And for Girlfortart...
No one is BORN a Broadway singer.
I think Diana has the voice and the charm.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

I just read the article, which lists two productions at Fox Theater in Atlanta. So she has some professional MT experience.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

Actually, Diana might be good. She can sing, she's wholesome and cute and young and would definitely increase ticket sales for the show, I'm sure.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

Having grown up and performed alongside Mandy Moore I can attest to the fact that that girl belongs on the musical theatre stage! I always thought she was selling herself short by becoming a pop princess, but I'm certainly very glad that she seems to be moving out of pop and into acting. I can still remember her rendition of "Adelaide's Lament" all those years ago and how wonderful she was at conveying every nuance of the number. Now, please don't think me a shill...we personally never really got along, but I can give credit where credit is due.

BACK ON TOPIC... I don't think Diana would be a bad Belle, but I'm not so sure she could sustain eight strong performances a week. My biggest qualm with her on last season's "AI" was that she seemed to get nervous, tense up and scream.

My vote goes to Raven Simone for Broadway's new Belle. re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

I think she might actually be good too.
And just for the record, Christy Carlson Romano was in JRB's Parade on Broadway. I believe she was Mary. So, she does does have a legitimate Broadway credit to her name.
That said, she was DREADFUL as Belle.
[title of show] on Broadway. it's time. believe.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

It could be way worse. She really isn't bad, and she's pretty cute. Just think about Christy Carlson Romano if you're going to complain about this, though.

re: Diana Degarmo as Belle

Yes, ITF, she was in a couple of Broadway shows. But as I recall, the problem with her Belle is that she can't sing. We already know DeGarmo can sing. I was pointing out her professional theater credits in response to the question of whether she can act. At least we know she has some experience. I didn't know that prior to reading the article.
